A quick check of my profile thingy shows that I joined eRep on 29th May 2014 - a little over six months ago. As soon as I was able to join a party, I joined TUP. And I’ve been there ever since.
A lot has happened in the last six months, both to the country and to the party. For TUP in particular I’ve been pretty active in fighting against the bad guys: first BigAnt, then Serbian PTOers, and more recently the clowns who don’t seem to have anything better to do than try (and fail) to p*ss on other people’s chips.
Who could they possibly be? Write your answers on a postcard and then throw it in the nearest bin
And all that culminated in my first term as PP - which finished a couple of hours ago.
It occurred to me that spending all my time in the same party - and for that matter the same MU - isn’t necessarily the healthiest state of affairs. There’s other stuff out there, and I really should make an effort to see some of it.
So that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to go walkabout for a while.
Please don’t depress me by telling me you have no idea who that is
I’m planning to wander around a bit, visit some other parties (until they chuck me out at least) and see what’s going on outside of TUP, because I’m told such a place does exist. And who knows, I might return to TUP with a few

The PP of The UNITY Party laughed at the idea of offering Congress to anyone else. He's fairly new but acts like a TUP player since 2009, it's really impressive.
Not quite. I laughed at the idea of any party accepting Serf to put him in Congress. And I wasn't PP when I wrote the message.

Ex-PP, by a few hours. Semantics. SerF has done an incredible amount of good for the UK. The TUP mentality has not.
Don't get me wrong, I like many of the active TUP players. It's just that it's a mentality that seems exclusive to certain members of a certain party.
It makes a difference to me - you can do and say things differently when you're not PP (indeed, when you're not a member of the party at all, which I wasn't).
I'm genuinely interested to hear what the TUP mentality is that you referred to.
The only reason why I ask what Mike has done is because he keeps blabbing how I've done nothing for UK. I haven't asked anyone directly to run me. If nobody wants to, so be it. Your loss.
Whilst I agree with the 'TUP' mentality, it's not like others actually offer something positively different. There are those who support the 'evil ruler' typically dictatorial and incumbent, and those who support the idea of manipulating a populist ruler. Whilst it looks like fresh blood is being elected, the people controlling them are the same puppet masters. Evil or stupid, both are just as dangerous, you takes your chances.

I for one would love to know what this "TUP mentality" is. Let's take me for example - I started in Nov 2009 and my first political experience was in the 'Peoples Democratic Party' with players such as Temujin94 http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/2634904 and Dan/naD Wilshire http://www.erepublik.com/en/citizen/profile/2114013
Some of the most important people I remember from those early days were Mr Woldy, GlaDOS, and Dishmcds.
I then spent a long period away from the game soon after the introduction of the new battlefield in erep rising and came back as a '2 clicker' over 3 years ago. I didn't take much interest in politics and for a long time just did the basics as a member of Liberty http://www.erepublik.com/en/main/group-show/582. Then back toward the beginning of this year I started to read some newspaper articles about what was happening in eUK.
There appeared to be BigAnt and Dapper as the main protagonists on one side and their bile was aimed toward TUP and in particular Iain Keers and Kravenn on the other. I must admit I was unsure as to who to support, if anyone. I had never been in TUP and both sides seemed to be making arguments that on the face of it had merit. I read up what I could and it soon became clear what choice was necessary - it was my duty to join TUP. At the time the much easier options would have been to have either sided with BigAnt (this was before he ran off with the treasury) or to have just stayed out of it altogether.
I made my choice to join TUP where I have been welcomed by many friendly, helpful people. To be perfectly frank, knowing what I know now, if I had my time over again from the day I started in erep in Nov 2009, the first thing I would have done would have been to have joined TUP.
TUP are not special and unique in that respect Paul. Every party/MU you join have friendly and helpful people in it.

TUP was one of the first parties to run other parties for congress. It was so long ago it was before my time when Thomas765 was PP of TUP in, like, early 2012 or late 2011. Then I, and my successor, in late 2012 ran a joint list for like 2 months in a row with the UKRP helping them into Congress. We also ran Independent Alliance members with our congress list - in essence we gave up 2 slots each time we did this - and we have offered the GBDP seats before (turned down as they received a better offer from, I think, New Era or WRP at the time). Much of this was driven by older, 2009, players as well as newer, younger players - like myself.
Secondly, TUP members have put in hard work to work with other parties - ask Ayame Crocodile about my own work with the PCP or Mr Woldy. We don't always - although we have done - run candidates purely because they are ours. Heck, we damn near put in all the effort to elect BlueandEvil in April 2013! I remember that month well because I was sure he was going to lose it for putting in little effort as his internet screwed up in the last week before elections (this is from memory)
Finally, what Voodoo says is his own right. He ain't PP anymore, and he isn't even in the party! He isn't even considered in the TUP Council either.
If anyone will be considering SerF's candidacy - as a party - it will be me and the Council, not Voodoo.
I like you, I think you've actually care about the nation, but so do I - and so does TUP - but your ignorance, bias and vitirol against my party is showing. (I use 'my' not in the ownership sense, but in the belonging sense)

The first party to offer Congress to a non top 5 party was ESO, back when they mattered...
The offering of seats in return for party votes only really took off once they changed the Congress election from individual to party. The first party to really utilise it was New Era, which scared everyone else into doing it. Personally, i think it made the whole political scene in the eUK a damn sight worse. It gave parties outside the Top 5 no incentive to build, grow or improve anymore. All they needed to do was sit there and wait until either TUP or New Era came with their offers. Much like the competition the Top 5 parties got into a while back, to see who could have the most 'new' players on their list.
I've always been a big believer in having the best people in Congress, regardless of their original political ties.
No one 'hates on TUP', most people in the eUK would like to see a strong TUP, an intelligent TUP, a TUP that puts the country first and foremost. But for the past two years we have seen a TUP desperate to cling onto power. It came as no surprise to me that in TUP's hour of need people turned their backs. It's a shame that the party still hasn't learnt from its mistakes. You've got a lot of work to do Boh, to win back the hearts and minds of the eUK.

I'm nearly there. All I need is 400-ish gold to upgrade the last two TGs to Q4 and get some training contracts, and six months of training at 90 a day instead of 30. Then I'll be at 20k strength instead of 4k.

If memory serves me correct, you'll need about 160g to upgrade the last two.
The last two are 170 g each for a full upgrade to Q4. If I get them in a 45% off sale that'll be 93.5g each (187 for both). Plus the cost of a contract.
Given that we won't get gold for some of the medals starting in January, that's a lot of cash to scrape together.
