[Speaker/Reform] Logistics 'n that
Sir Humphrey Appleby
Good afternoon lads o7,
Pending another successful multi operation; I am happy to announce the good people of Parliament and UK Reform have once again elected the most historically inactive martinet to once again assume office, with the traditional complete absence of manifesto policy. I’d like to thank good ol’ Ron for at least making it a decent two way race for the Speakership and the dangerously active UKRP that fielded a magnificent seven heavyweights for our monthly last man drinking contest.
We have had a pretty active term thus far gov side, with a corresponding drop of activity in mongress. The committees with the exception of citizenship, as far as anyone’s aware, are completely inactive, in terms of constitutionally holding the government to account - largely defunct. We also face the rather gloomy issue of a slowly shrinking community. There seems to be a deep parallel in how many have the time to participate in keeping the logistics of the legislative wing of government alive.
We demonstrated after recovering from our MTO by the infamous MEK that we could as a community think outside the box of the frankly appalling ingame mechanics and hammer out working common grounds to productively work as a society. And most of it has more or less survived since all the main parties put aside previous ‘eViolence’ and signed up to it.
One of the key themes I’d like to try and collaborate with people on this month is a further decentralisation of the legislative process. The more individual citizens have a say and stake in their political process, the more included and likely they are to want to participate in it. With 9 days until the next elections hopefully we can reorganise things into something more suitably interesting.
Drop me a message when yer free :3

Cool ideas cannae wait to contribute
aye, thought we might make votes that fail to reach 30% thrown out and 65% passed; those in between going to a referendum deferred to the public on the mongress articles after a period of discussion
Dave suggested a vote attendance clause on parliament votes it too; nominally 50/60% or sommat otherwise it's not particularly legitimate and should be deferred too. May make some MPs turn up more 😛
Those rules are totally reasonable, but they will stop congress in its tracks completely.
I'll be surprised that out of all of the votes I ever did, that one, if any, actually had 65%+ yes votes to pass.
To be fair a lot of laws go past on the nod of routine, MPPs being the basic example
Given how small the participatory community is I think a public vote is more final. Perhaps tweaking the triger calibre to 60% to make it more balanced
On the other alternative, public referenda could be more regularly the case if the vote was between 30 and 70%. Depends how far we want the public to directly vote on this branch of government.
187 people voted in the last congressional elections. What are you envisioning will be the quorum for the public referendum?
And are we really willing for important things like joining a new alliance to grind to a halt just because not enough people can be bothered to vote?
What about sensitive issues that don't get the required 65%, how will we hold a public referendum on them?
And if we do vote in something like this, what happens if we find out the legislation doesn't work but can't get enough people to vote on it to change it back? Aren't we risking effectively locking ourselves out of government?
Other than that I think it's a great idea.
😉
think GB can organize a lottery for players registered within last 12 months to give the chance to the luckiest of them to hold sit in the upcoming congress. so new players will enter parliament, new players a lot of questions, discussion, nerves, fun, take it for free🙂
UK parties tend to run new folk in congress as an introduction and training to one main branch of how society operates
I expect what we're broadly proposing here is more to do with getting any contribution from anybody still alive 😛
"a magnificent seven"
lmao nice the remake looks f r e s h
Voted and endorsed!
