[Interview] eBelgium Stance On Neutrality

Day 1,678, 23:42 Published in Switzerland Australia by xxCloveR333xx

Hello there!
I see that you have somehow stumbled upon my first article ever in eRepublik.
I thought I might start the newspaper with an article on Neutrality, a topic that I've always been interested in.

Neutrality is a rare view in eRepublik, a game which arguably focuses on war. Nevertheless, eBelgium is one of the few countries that adopts neutrality as its stance. Their neutrality can be seen in a national referendum held last month.

The referedum

And the results

Recently, I conducted an interview with MaryamQ, a respected player in eBelgium.
Let's see what she thinks about eBelgium's neutrality stance.

Supply officer for the Belgian National Army
Member of eBelgium's elite para-commando unit

Please note that the following are her views only as she does not speak for the entire Government

Q: What is eBelgium's stance on neutrality?
A: eBelgium is officially neutral. This was confirmed by a national referendum last month.

Q: How does the government view neutrality?
A: The government is committed to carrying out the will of the people to remain neutral.

Q: What are some of the reasons that eBelgium still signs MPPs with a few countries?
A: The intention is to keep a balance between alliances while still providing opportunities for our citizens to fight. These are chosen for various reasons, including friendship over a period of time.

Q: What do you mean by "keep a balance between alliances"?
A: Typically, there will be 2 TEDEN MPPs and 2 ONE MPPs. Sometimes additional MPPs are signed for particular reasons, but it is still attempted to sign an equal number from each side.

Q: What are some problems that arise on being neutral? How does eBelgium handle these issues?
A: Probably the biggest one is that the alliances often do not wish to recognize neturality. In recent months, eBelgium was blacklisted by TEDEN for signing ONE MPPs after being attacked by TEDEN neighbors. It has taken a lot of diplomatic work by various people to find nations that would accept MPPs. Also, trying to keep a balance requires careful planning to avoid countries that may fight each other, resulting in a cancellation of MPPs.

Q: Do you see eBelgium's stance on neutrality to last in the foreseeable future?
A: That's hard to say. The citizens really want to keep neutrality, but it does become more and more difficult to maintain. It is largely a matter of who is elected to office and their feelings about what is best for the country. Many of the politically active do want to choose a side, but feel constrained by the recent referendum.

Q: Do you mind if I post this interview as an article in eSwitzerland?
A: No, I don't mind, as long as you make it clear that it is my view of the situation and I am not speaking officially for the government.

What do you think eSwitzerland?
Is neutrality a viable option for an eCountry in eRepublik?
