[DC] On Adriatica

Day 3,182, 08:31 Published in Ireland South Korea by Don Croata

Taking another day off today and taking the chance to write an article about a very serious topic which has been rumbling through my head for some time. Several months ago I’ve came up with an idea that Croatia should found an alliance, write its rules and invite their friends to join and follow those rules which would be the same for everyone. Maybe it sounds different than any other alliance founding process, but in the start it was working very well. The alliance has been founded and its name is Adriatica. One of the major world’s alliances today.

Alliance rules

Maybe I could copy/past the whole alliance charter in here, but it would be better for the purpose of the article to highlight the rules we’ve consider the most important ones. All the rules in the Charter was made for a very good reason. To understand them you should understand that ‘our side’ ie. Croatia was on weaker side for a pretty long time. There was no alternative to that state until the founding of Adriatica. The main rule is ‘Coordinated strike rule’. It basicly means that every member of the alliance should choose a person responsible for leading their national’s Coordinated strikes. In the beginning this strategy has proven to be very effective against bigger enemy such as Asteria. We’ve had very successful run of battles. Considering our first members/pro-members were smaller countries it was actually a big surprise for everyone. Croatia has been on top of its activity, it’s been the start of spring and zdlemmy has already done a very good job organising those strikes for ZNG, Croatian National MU. When other countries started to organise their own strikes it was beautiful to watch.

Second rule was ‘National MU’. Having all the people in the same MU has so many pros and really not more than few cons. National MU would be led by the same guy who organises national strikes. National MU would mean that everyone would follow the same prios. We’d only need few active people to change DO’s and we’d have all citizens of the country fighting in the same battle. Seven countries would mean seven people and same DO. It’s very effective. It was all about damage distribution, since our damage size wasn’t nearly enough to cope with the stronger sides such as Asteria (especially considering their organisation). When we had few National MU’s with the same DO and hold national strike we would be very hard to beat even against stronger alliance with CO’s on their side.

As you can see those rules has worked perfectly until one point. Resource Wars.

Downfall of the Alliance

When Plato introduced Resource wars it seemed like a great fun. And ultimately it was. I mean, we’ve had some good battles and had a good laugh. For the first few days. After that it was a torture. All the countries has been working for their own resources and there’s been tons of training wars. For one month alliances has stopped functionating. Not just Adriatica, but the rest of them too. The difference is that Asteria and others started to functionate again after the event, while Adriatica stopped entirely. The lack of communication has been killing the young alliance from its beginnings. Somewhere before the event the HQ of the alliance has decided to establish better bonds with Syndicate. It was an alliance made of Greece, Turkey, Brazil and Argentina. While some of them was enemies with some of our members the rest of Adriatica members were already in good relations with S. Now, we’ve had serious lack of communication, we’ve been befriending an aliance half of our members disliked and no one has been following the main rules of the alliance.

Vettell took charge of Adriatica and tried to change things, but it seemed impossible. The lack of communication has became the main problem. Countries would propose NE and make plans without even informing the HQ and its not how an alliance can work. It’s not even the alliance. In this case it’s just group of countries using PM to come and say “Help us”. For the you won’t need an alliance. I’ll mention the other problems again in this article, but in my opinion this was the main one. Countries stopped consulting with the alliance, because in the start of the alliance they used to work on their own for the resource wars.

Diplomacy issues

Basicly, Adriatica is an alliance made by Croatia. All Croatian friends were invited. Literally everyone. The problem has started when the alliance had to choose someone to work with. Since Asteria was the main enemy, they wasn’t even taken into consideration. Some countries such as Ireland, Chile and Venezuela had a strong friendship with Bulgaria, Macedonia and Russia. The other countries such as Georgia, Croatia and Italy had better relations with Greeks and Turks. It was the trouble starter. Alliance has chosen to go with Syndicate which caused some troubles for us internally. Those who like BG/MKD was unhappy. It was the time when I personally moved to Ireland because of this. I didn’t want to interfere anymore since I couldn’t do it for personal reasons. I guessed it’s the best I can do to help Adriatica since I was kinda known for being proMKDBG. I’ve let others make decisions and lead the alliance. It was a good decision, Vettell did best he could.

Alliance has decided that all the members must drop BG/MKD MPP’s and that was done very fast actually. Ireland, Chile and Venezuela asked to be allowed to sign them and alliance has allowed that. Everyone respected it. Now, the two main problems happened after it. Syndicate should’ve drop their Asteria MPP’s too, at least that was to be expected since we did the same thing. We would understand some exceptions of course. On the other side MKD and BG has realized what’s happening and they’ve signed a lot of Asteria MPP’s. Asterian/Serbian diplomacy worked very well and has just replaced their Syndicate MPP’s with BG and MKD, which proved to be the best thing to do since they’ve got Spain on their side with this move too. The lack of communication and decision making issues has made this even bigger problem for Adriatica members.

Since BGMKD moved entirely to proAsteria side all Adriatica members were asked to drop their MPP’s. And that’s what happened. What didn’t happened is Syndicate dropping all Asteria MPPs. This is where we, as an alliance lost every chance to be competitive. With MKD and BG being fully on Asteria side it’s only natural to expect that Syndicate and Adriatica will start to cooperate entirely, but it didn’t happened neither. It seems like the communication between two alliances is on very low level. I’m not that involved anymore, so I can’t say this with a certainity, but that’s how it seems from the outside.

Quo Vadis?

The coming days will be a huge test for Adriatica. Either we’re going to have a fresh start again. Just like we had when we were founding an alliance or we’re going to dissolve our alliance. There’s no third option. Even Vettell, the guy who has been giving one of the greatest efforts I’ve seen in this game has been slowly giving up of things. What all the members of Adriatica should understand is that we’re either gonna restore our rules and start following them again, or we’re going to end up suffering and losing all the battles.

There is no alternative anymore except to stay and give its best for the alliance, for friends. The World is now more bipolar than ever in the last few years and love it or hate it you’re going to have to pick a side. Maybe it’s the perfect time to start something new now, in the end of summer and beginning of new academic year. Probably the most important things in Erepublik has happened in this time of the year. Let’s take a use of it and organize ourselves as we was already organized once. It’s all up to members. Either you’re going to be part of the group and give your best for it or you’re gonna leave/be kicked for not following the rules. I hope it won’t be necessary to help such drastic steps, but the alliance is either gonna work or be dissolved.

For the end, one of my favourite quotes. It’s appropriate to use it today. Again.
