World News - Day 2097

Day 2,097, 00:08 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Salvator3

Thanks for reading the latest edition of Daily Dose - regularly bringing you news from around the world in eRepublik. Our goal is to help regular citizens keep informed and hopefully encourage them to remain active and participate in country and international affairs.

This paper relies heavily on other citizens getting involved to help out. We do have paid reporters to help cover most regions, however we are working on a limited budget so resources are strained. If you are aware of any noteworthy events (either current or upcoming) around the world, then please notify us through this form: http://goo.gl/wnl5Dv. Alternatively you can join us on IRC in #DailyDose (server: irc.rizon.net)

Alternatively, consider making a donation to help us to hire more reporters & cover more world news. Donations can be made here.

Nation shield is now over

The national shield event has now concluded and by the sounds of things, everyone is going to become rather obese with all the excess energy bars that are floating around.

Most nations around the world seem to be quite happy with the event, however some are a little concerned that smaller nations with a higher number of active players fared better. The results of the event seem to conclude that is the case.

However, it’s no secret that many players feel that the challenges faced by smaller nations outweigh those faced by larger ones & with the prizes being defence shields (unique items able to absorb damage) it appears Plato is taking steps to help even the scales.

Estonia took the much coveted first place, with Pakistan and Germany following second a third respectively.

eRepublik forums have been launched!

An old feature, sorely missed is the eRepublik forums and Plato recently announced they have been relaunched. Initially, the forum was swamped by a number of players encouraging Plato to instead focus his efforts on fixing the economy. Soon many other conversations followed and the forums quickly took off.

It does appear like their initial format may require some tweaking. Recruitment and discussion forums are world wide, not segmented for countries so the chance of finding eligible recruits is quite slim.

The forums can be found here.

Party President / Military unit Captain elections

On the 15th of every month all members of a political party are eligible to vote for their party leader and all members of a military unit are able to vote for their captain. Elections have recently closed and Plato will announce the winners soon.

Country Showcase - United Kingdom

In each edition, we will be doing a showcase on a particularly country. We will start with their history and move on to their current day activities. After that, we will focus on their current administration, how they operate and their plans for the future.

The UK was originally part of the alliance ATLANTIS until their defeat and dissolution in mid 2009. The UK then switched to the opposing PEACE network after a dispute with Sweden and it’s supporters over attacks on Germany. This then transformed the UK from being a relatively safe nation to one surrounded by enemies and thus a front in wars between major alliances.

Due to their switching sides, the UK was then made a target of the the successor alliance to ATLANTIS; EDEN and Brolliance. In addition to this, they were also facing a threat from Hungary who wished to use the UK as a launching pad for their attack on North America.

The UK then switched sides again, back to Brolliance, however that association was short lived, as the UK subsequently withdrew as they believed the alliance was not helpful in their attempt to invade Belgium.

After that, the UK became a neutral supporter of the ONE alliance and subsequently became a full member not to long after. They relied on the assistance of ONE to help them defeat and occasionally occupy Ireland.

After a decline in their military abilities of not only the UK but also by one, the tables were turned on the UK . France and Canada joined the war with the UK being wiped off the map and it’s territories shared between the three attackers.

In the next edition, we’ll look more closely into the UK’s rise back to prominence.

Canada

It’s no secret that relations between Spain and Canada are quite strained. Some time ago, Canada launched a successful attack against the UK and was successful in taking and holding some regions. Spain then intervened (along with others) removing Canada from the the British Isles and then continued the war to Canada’s soil and was successful in wiping them from the map.

Canada has recently begun a push to regain at least some territory in the leadup to the congress elections so they can hopefully elect a congress. Due to tactical errors and miscommunication, Canada’s ally USA accidentally fought against Canada and helped Spain in their attacks.

Canada has since gained a single region and is throwing everything they can behind it, with the country desperate to hold onto it so they can elect a congress and reduce their work tax (which is currently at 20% and cannot be modified without a congress) before more people leave the country in droves. Due to their strained budget, the country is actively asking for donations from citizens.

The Canadian administration is currently in talks with Spain to secure peace and hopefully hold onto at least one region.

USA

For over 3 months USA has been weakened by a successful PTO. Although it took some time, the country seems to be showing signs of uniting behind central figures to help rid the country of the remaining PTO forces. They are hoping, once that is complete they may be able to work on regaining more territory in addition to the two territories they have recently regained.

USA’s alliance Circle of Trust (CoT) has made it a priority to return Washington to Americans.

Mexico & Hungary

Up until recently, Hungary had controlled the majority of Mexico’s regions, however Mexico’s alliance Circle of Trust (CoT) has rallied behind mexico to help them regain lost territory. They have been successful so far, with Mexico regaining territory. Strategically, a resistance war was started in Alaska to help cut Hungary off from their supply line which resulted in Alaska being successfully return to USA.

Bulgaria & Romania

After recently concluding a war against Turkey which saw Bulgaria regain one of it’s core regions, with the assistance of it’s allies Bulgaria has launched a fresh attack on Romania, attempting to retake more of their core regions. Their first attack has been unsuccessful, with Romania able to hold onto their conquests. Bulgaria has since launched a fresh attack and seems willing to continue to fight to regain their core lands.

Romania & Hungary

For some time, many factions of both countries have shown great interest in once again going to war with each other and the possibility is on the horizon. However, war fatigue has set in on both sides with a small, but growing minority of citizens hoping peace can be achieved and maintained. With both nations being a member of the alliance The World is Ours (TWO) full scale war will only happen after one (or both) members leave the alliance.

Russia

A new front against Russia was recently opened with Ukraine launching an attack. With heavy assistance from their allies in Circle of Trust (CoT) Russia was able to successfully repel the attack.

Poland

Concerned with the USA recently regaining some provinces, Poland has made it their top priority to hold onto their existing and regain lost regions on the American mainland as such, the government is even advising their citizens to let Belgium win the resistance wars.

Belgium

After successfully re-gaining a region from Poland, Belgium now has their sights set on a second which by the look of things, Poland is allowing to happen.

Latvia

After recently fighting wars on multiple fronts with Russia and Sweden and being wiped from the map, Latvia has since been able to repel the attackers and regain a number of core territories.

No news to report.

Philippines

After being wiped from the map for over 3 months, the Philippines has managed to regain a single province from the chinese who until recently had occupied the whole country.. After promising talks with their closest and largest neighbours the Filipino government remains optimistic they can hold onto this region until the next congress elections and work to rebuild their country. The leaders of the Philippines are throwing quite a bit of energy and resources behind rebuilding activity in their country and are actively looking for players interested in joining them with this goal.

Australia & Indonesia

Things have started to turn quite bad for Australia with Indonesia currently holding on to more than half of their territory. It is Australia’s hope, now that the national shield tournament is over that their allies in the alliance The World is Ours (TWO) will once again help Australia regain lost territory.
