We Still Have A Government - Issue 13 - Jul 04

Day 2,783, 13:52 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Jake Lee Blakeway

Firstly, let me start off by saying how sorry I am for just seemingly disappearing off planet Earth. I know a few people might think it is down to me getting bored of the game, or getting annoyed from the wipe. I can assure you this is far from the truth. In reality I have been recovering from Real Life stress which led to a collapse and ended up with me in hospital for a short period of time. I have been out for just under a week, but have still been recovering (Still managed to log on and fight every day). I won’t be able to write articles every day still, but I should at least be able to do one at least every couple of days now. I want to thank everyone who took the time to send me nice get well soon messages.

Anyway….

We might not have a country, but we still have a government

I suppose it is one of the good things about this game. You can lead a group of people, yet never own a single piece of land. Ok, I will be the first to admit that is not an easy thing to do, running a country on a skeleton budget will require some creative accounting and laws on behalf of the new government.

What is so special about this government though, is that it is an experiment. An experiment in people. Rather than having the election and then trying to put together a party afterward, this time we are hiring and building a cabinet before the election and allowing anyone to join. In terms of social progress this is a massive step forward. Allowing anyone to join the government in even the smallest way can help people gain experience and a sense of achievement. It is going to be interesting to see how this all runs in practice.

With election day being tomorrow, I would usually do an article about a predicted vote or maybe even try to predict the outcome, however with a Appleby Victory pretty much confirmed (As I only know of three people who would vote for William: Himself, Winston and Bruce) There is very little point. Instead I figured I would outline some challenges that the new Experiential Government are going to have to deal with:

No more money in the bank.

Hate to say it, but Greece is richer than us (Give it 24 hours and it might be different however). I am guessing Fata is rather happy I donated that 50 gold those few weeks ago now. I remember getting a message saying that I would more or likely get it back as it wasn’t needed… Maybe I am like Derren Brown and predicted this would happen and set money in advance??? Either way we need to find a way to raise some needed fund, with many MPP’s coming up for renewal and our need for allies greater than ever, Some innovative ideas are going to need to be put forward to help raise some much needed cash for the month ahead.

The Resistance.

Our primary aim has to be the reclamation of our land. Against a foe like Argentina even taking back a single territory can be classed as a major victory. If this was a classic RTS like Total War or Crusader Kings I would be more willing to help take the helm, but this strategy is a different kettle of fish altogether. The MoD has got their work cut out for them to try and help us reclaim and defend at least a single territory.

Our Allies.

In my old old Manifesto, and in an article before, I mentioned about the need to overhaul our foreign policy. I think this is important now more than ever. We do seem to be on the losing side. I am not saying we should backstab our current Allies, but trying our best to forge new friendship, or broker deals with countries we usually wouldn’t even talk to is of high importance. I would even go as far to say, that our foreign policy for this month might be what makes or breaks this government. If the MoFA can help attract new, stronger allies to aid the freedom of the UK, we might be able to get somewhere.

Keeping Morale High.

There is no denying that we are all exhausted and a little deflated after the wipe. With no bonuses or no land, we all feel a little disjointed. I am appalled at Argentina’s attitude to the whole of this. I even sent him an open letter. Never got a response, what a bunch of rude people. Right now we need to keep it together and join together. I know in the past we have shouted and made enemies with one another, but if we keep spending this energy fighting one another, how can we even expect to defeat our enemies. I am not saying we should totally bury the hatchet, but I think at the very least we should agree to stop fighting for a month and act as a united country for once. Once the Argies have been wiped off our lands, then we can go back to shouting and bitching to our hearts content.

Well that is it for now. Good luck everybody and don’t forget to vote tomorrow. Who you vote for is totally up to you.
