Why I am Here

Day 3,043, 18:18 Published in USA USA by Delyruin

The wonderful Melissa Rose challenged me to write this article today and although the media module is one of my least favorite (to contribute to) I’ve decided to give it a go. If you don’t want to read to following ramble I’ll understand.

Why do I play eRepublik? For no reason other than a memory.

I joined this game way back in July 2009, during the always nostalgic World War Three. Back then America was getting its ass kicked by the boogeyman that was PEACE, GC and since I was a patriot, it was a good enough reason for me to stick around and fight. I first joined the Libertarian Party where I “grew up” under Daphne Lilac, one of most quality eReppers we’ve ever had in my opinion. I engaged in politics and war, but I was never exceptionally ambitious and the game itself never really grabbed me in the way I expected it to. The real reason I stuck around is because of the people I met.

Not related, here’s an amusing gif to break up the monotony.

Very few of these people were in my own party, the Libs. Most were in the USWP and newly T5 Federalists(I still remember the day that happened, caused quite the stir)…This pattern of making friends only outside my own political sphere would generally hold true until I joined the Federalists only 5-6 months ago. The laughs and convos I had with these people is why I kept coming back. I rarely came back for eRep itself…..Only for the friends I made.

The “problem” now is that almost all of the friendships that I once had in eRep have either stopped or are now barely, if at all, attached to this game and my RL has become more and more important to me. So the reason I play now is the memory of what was once true and brought me many hours of joy. As my real life becomes more satisfying and my “eFriendships” moved out of eRep the game hold less and less meaning to me. It is not an exciting or even hopeful answer, but it is the only one I have.

Thank you for reading.
