Following the failed pursuit of Ronaldinho by Brazilian club Palmerias, the Chennai Titans of the Indian Super League (ISL) have reportedly been in talks with legendary footballer to bring him aboard the new league. The 2002 World Cup champion and two-time FIFA Player of Year is one of the most revered players in a nation that has been referred to as the ‘sleeping giant’ of football.

Roberto de Assis, Ronaldinho’s brother and agent, is currently working with the ISL and the Chennai franchise to agree upon a deal. The team is looking to sign Ronaldinho to a two-year contract.

Ronaldinho is open to playing in the ISL primarily because the season lasts just two months (October 12-December 20). He is planning on joining an MLS franchise in early 2015.

While his production speaks for itself, fans in India have always been enamored by his personality on the field. The carefree attitude the 34-year-old still plays with will be a treasure for football fans in India.

ISL’s Chennai franchise boasts representation by Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan. Bachchan also owns the Jaipur franchise of the Pro Kabaddi League.
