[WTP] ~INSURGIO~

What is INSURGIO~?

...is a question many eRepublik players must have asked themselves once or twice over the past couple of years. In its fundamentals, INSURGIO~ is a WTP slogan. In our former welfare program, Feed The World, party members were tasked to comment with INSURGIO~ in order to receive an additional q7 tank. Currently, it is part of the Whalefare Program where any INSURGIO~ comment under a governmental or party article will earn the player a q7 tank.



But why INSURGIO~? What does it mean?

The slogan in its context was first used by Hale26 two summers ago, as far as I can remember. We were looking for a catchy phrase to put into use as part of FTW and this is what he came up with. Somehow, the phrase encompasses the whole WTP culture perfectly. The core of the word in Latin is 'insurgo', or 'to revolt'. However, WTP doesn't go to such a extent but we do insurge against the set dogmas and give voice to the people.



What does WTP stand for?

We The People is all about the People. There is no more concise way to put it, so I'll try to talk around this phrase with specific examples.

(1) The most obvious example are the WTP Primaries. While other parties also use off-site elections every now and then, the Primaries are in the core of the WTP culture. But while other parties used them as an ATO tool, we also gave a meaning to the Primary. After changes in the game mechanics two years ago, now in Congressional elections the Party President orders the list of candidates. And as the deviation of congressmen per party per month isn't more than one or two, it can be objectively stated that the Party President decides who will be a congressman, and who - not. WTP reserves this power for the People. Candidates are encouraged to campaign, and party members are reminded to vote in the Primary. In our public forum now there is a thread which contains everything about the WTP Primaries!



(2) However, we don't stop here. WTP is being run by a great mix of People. We don't turn away anyone who genuinely wishes to contribute to the eUS society.
Among our members you can not only find current PotUS Oblige, respected (former) Cabinet members like DMJohnston, Blande, MrCarey, Disco Musolini, Talostastic, Hale26, Tanishq, Cholan, myself and others, but also some (formerly) despicable for some in the eUS Elites faces like Franklin Stone (famous for his anti-Pfeiffer stubbornness), HeapSeppo (famous for his strife with EZC dinosaurs Deepchill and Gnilraps) and Cubby (who is solely responsible for the success of the low taxes faction in Congress this spring/summer). Maybe add George Griffin to this latter list as well?

WTP also is rich on new faces! Not only that two of our most recent recruits have been Party Presidents over the past quarter of a year, but we even had landed a deputy Speaker of the House position for another of them! Furthermore, Peaspod, DtheCapt, Acid Z and others you are yet to hear of! Last but not least, this month in our Primary we welcomed five new candidates for Congress! Two of them will surely be part of the 84th eUS Congress and a third is just on the border. If Nesterus makes it into Congress, this will mean that a third of our caucasus consists of entirely new WTP Congressmen (only Nesterus will have been in Congress, as part of LAP who merged with us in the Spring).

(3) Our Whalefare program supplies party members with 7 q7 tanks a day. There is also food for members of WTP and non-top5 parties. This is something we are definitely proud of!



So, in which sense is WTP revolting?

Although that eRepublik is a Social Multiplayer Military Strategy Game, the only "democratic" process are the elections. But are even they "democratic", I would ask you.
(1) Congressional elections - five people decide who the 40 congressmen will be for a community of well over 500 people.
(2) PotUS elections - again, the very same five people decide who the contenders will be and who their party of two-three hundred people or more is going to support.

While this suits the gameplay for some parties, WTP opposes this nonsense of democracy and uses the Primaries system to give the People an actual vote. We expand on this with our culture as a party and as a sub-community in eUSA. And I for one am very happy that the American players have the option to choose to be part of WTP because of the culture we hold on to and the culture we represent!
