[NoTie] Where's NoTie?
NoTie112
How are you all? It's September already and probably most of you, as am I, are returning to work/school. The weather is getting worse already (at least in the Netherlands) and before long we'll be longing for the summer days again, those full of sunshine and without time to spend on eRepublik - I certainly enjoyed that!
So what have my fellow Dutchmen been doing the last few months? Share your story and I will gift you some good stuff! Myself, I have been to Greece for almost two months. Starting in Athens, I've been staying in Korinthos, Nafplio, Sparta, Olympia, Patras, Naxos, Santorini & Iraklion. As I'm kind of a history-nerd and a Hellenophile, I of course enjoyed my trip thoroughly!
Cheers from Greece! I will send you a big prize if you can guess where I am on this picture!

Luckily I delayed my report of Edinburgh, Scotland visit few months back. This place is a heaven for those who enjoy any kind of history!
Nice! I've been to Edinburgh (and the rest of Scotland) two years ago. While I didn't like the countryside that much (not that much a nature person), Edinburgh was an amazing historic sight to walk through!
Oh you gave me something alreay 😃 . I thought you would have waited for the newspaper story.
Regardless of that, post about it - I'm intrigued 😃
Been cruising the Nile river for a couple weeks and stopping here & there to visit temples 'nd stuff.
Now on the point to extend the summer for a while and leave to Alanya ,Turkey 😃
The good life! I've always been planning to go to Egypt with my partner, but yeah.. seems quite unsafe at times especially when you want to go around yourself 😮 . Have fun in Turkey, one of my favourite holiday destinations!
Have to agree that we had some iffy moments ..... but hey that keeps you sharp and on ur toes 😉
On the cruise boat , all is fine and no worries .
But when you get of board .... thats another thing.....from the 1st step on the dock people wanna sell you anything & evrything...... beggars by the bus load .... markets are pickpocket country and believe me when i say they will get you.
I was glad that i didn't put my wallet ect in my pocket that day....just a few coins .....
When i wanted to fix my wife and myself up with a soda..... you can guess the outcome....
But that aside iwe had a great trip , seen tons of temples .....almost to an info overload....
Security is pretty tight ..... along every road no matter where (city or dessert) you'll find a Millitairy checkpoint.
So we felt safe the whole trip.
But i can understand your concerns when you wanna go arround on the fly...... it wouldn't be my choice.
I liked to see the pharaos , not be burried with them 😉
Turkey is 1 of my favorites to , good food , plenty of drinks , to much to do & see ,so happy times ahead .
Thanks
Thanks for the All in arrangement m8 🙂
I hope you had a great holiday NoTie and everyone else as well!
I've been away myself, together with my girlfriend I went to Porto, Portugal and after 8 days wondering around we rented a car and drove to Tó, Portugal near the Spanish border at the Douro River (natural border). We had seen the sights in the city and did some hiking and kayaking in the national park. Also I have a new job which keeps me very busy these days I started with two weeks of training days (the second week starts next week). Exciting!
Just a car and driving around, great 🙂 Meanwhile I'm dependent on busses and train that don't follow schedule o7. Good luck with your new job!!
Well we had our fair share of waiting on busses and trains, mainly trains. Also chsnged car rental company as the one we booked was absolutely sh*t. Cost us time and money but in the end all was good. Thanks Tonie!
I traveled in three weeks from south to north Vietnam. Was a little hot (35+ degrees) and less rain than I expected. Beautiful country (Mekong Delta, Sapaa Highlands, Halong Bay, Saigon, Hanoi, Hue). Friendly people, great food. I really enjoyed it.
Cool! The vibe in South East Asia is certainly interesting, and indeed friendly people and great food (my experience in Bali, which is perhaps the least representative of the area hehe).
I just went back home. I hadn't been there since Christmas and was missing it a bit. Spent 3 weeks there, almost all the summer holidays I had.
For many of us, your home town is a proper holiday 😉 😃
Summers, I work. Will go camping this fall, then maybe get away to Mexico this winter. Glad to hear some of yas got a summer holiday!
I normally don't go on holiday in summers either: I like warm countries, but in July/August it gets too hot often 😃. And I despise the crowded spots in some areas, which I obviously encountered a lot in Greece 🙁. So enjoy your fall/winter get-away 😃.
Wow, almost 2 months. Lucky you! I hope you enjoyed it a lot!
I've been away for 2 weeks, but enjoyed it a lot. We went to Scotland. We're nature people so skipped all the cities. First week we drove a lot from B&B to B&B and did a lot of nature sightings. All in the triangle Glasgow, Isle of Sky, Edinburgh. Excluding the cities but for sure including Skye. Just the two us. It has been 20 years that my wife and I had more than a day alone so that in itself was good already. Great country. As well as for nature, the people as for driving when you skip the motorways. So enjoyed the latter a lot as well, also on my own as sometimes it ain't fun being a passenger when the roads are nice 😃
2nd week we picked up our 2 youngest children and had a holiday home booked. At a lake, sighting some mountains at the other side of it. That week we didn't do much anymore really apart from a few walks and some canoeing. Oh and preparing our own full Scottish breakfast every morning which in itself is time consuming as well. I myself however left a few times after dinner to do some proper driving again in the neighbourhood on abandoned roads. Learned some limitations of the car you'd never learn driving in Holland. And even in the German Eiffel I didn't experience one of them.
So all in all: very good
While not a nature person, I was forced to do kind of the same trip by my in-laws 😉. Skye was amazing to drive through indeed, especially as passenger. Same for High Lands and even the depressing John o' Groats / Orkney 😃. Nice and calming holiday and must be relaxing before the real life start again..
Nice to read about everyone's holidays. I was with MdR and the kids 2 weeks in Croatia. First week to the smallest sea in the world, the Karin sea. Lovely being in the warm water while looking to the Southern Velebit mountains. We hiked a bit around Tulove Grede and in the Paklenica N.P. Even found something we didn't know was there the old fortification and Liburnian town of Asseria, rebuilt by Roman enterprise.
After that 2 weeks in our beloved Istria... Great times! 🙂
Good mix of beautiful nature, relaxing and lesser-known historic sights - certainly I'd like to visit Croatia one day as well! Good that you enjoyed 😃
I was in the North-East of France for the past 2 weeks. We spent a lot of time enjoying nature, e.g. by walking in the mountains. The weather was mostly nice, with the exception of some rain last weekend. All in all, definitely a great holiday, at least in my opinion. I prefer active holidays to lying on a beach, or visiting a city...
Visiting cities can be very active 😉 But in general amen to that last sentence 😃
