[DoF] Business and Economy Q&A.

Day 3,145, 02:24 Published in Australia Australia by Reserve Bank of Australia

G'day,

I've started this article to answer any questions our citizens might have about the new economy. You can ask below, or you can message me, and I'll keep the article updated with new answers.

A reminder that we still don't know much about pollution so my advice is to miss a day or two production before you place you place your first holding company, unless you're willing to take a gamble.

The last article here summarised many of the changes, the main developments since then are:

Admins have confirmed you can't work as manager in a country your country of citizenship has a war with or embargo from, still no word on how these will affect employees and work tickets.

The yet to be activated airplane industry will only be able to be worked by employees, not as manager, the same system the housing industry has now.

If it turns out I put them in the wrong place how much to move them?

You can't move, sell or dissolve holding companies. Once you place them they're stuck for ever (or until staff change their minds).

You still sell factories, farms, and mines, or move them between holdings for a fee, calculated by (4% company value) + (1% of value for each 1000 km travelled), capped at 20% of the company value. This can become very expensive for top tier companies, so even placing those requires care.

How should we do holding company? I can't work, does it cost money and where do I put it?

Your first holding company is free, but the second is 25 gold, the third, 50 gold, the fourth 75 gold, and so on. Because you can't sell, move, or dissolve a holding company being sure about placement of even the first one is important.

Until you place a holding company and place companies in it you can only work for someone else.

Where you put your holding company depends on what you have. Placing in a high bonus region for the industry of your factories, mines and farms seems like a good idea, but until pollution can be seen in action tomorrow, we can't know, some high bonus regions could end up being lower than the country bonus which all regions have because of a lot of companies being placed their and causing pollution.

I discussed details our region and company bonuses in the last DoF article.

I have 3 industries, so do I need 3 holding companies?

Not necessarily, you can place all your companies from different industries in one holding company, and make use of the country bonus, or even one region bonus for your main industry focus. But to make the best use of region bonuses in the long term 3 separate holding companies (or even 4 if you plan aviation) might be best, but again, it's best to look at a couple of days of pollution before you place.

If I had it all lumped in 1 HC and in a weapon region how badly does the food industry suffer?

In Australia, before pollution is taken into account, you would miss out on 18% extra regional food bonus. Pollution may be nothing due to our small size, or it may be up to 25%; although that's unlikely, we just don't know yet for sure.

Why am I already pissed off and unhappy with Plato's latest change?

You're not the only one, the forums and newspapers are full of complaints and conspiracy theories, especially with regard to how vague details were, and details seem to have changed in some cases from earlier statements. there are still some vague elements which I hope will be made clear soon.

I do still have some hope that staff will eventually get their ducks in a row, and that these changes, together with future changes hinted at; aviation, regional governments and taxes, etc, might bring some more strategy into the game.

If I choose just 1 HC does that mean I can Manager Work without moving?

Yes, as long as you are already located in the region of your holding.

If I have 3 HCs does that mean I have to move 3 times a day just to Manager Work?

Not necessarily, Housing and Aviation can't be manager worked so you don't need to move for those.

If you have a food holding and a weapons holding you may only need to move once a day:

Day 1 - Work Food, Move, Work Housing
Day 2 - Work Housing, Move, Work Food
Day 3 - Work Food, Move, Work Housing

Can you remember us our bonus and where it is placed?

The are listed as part of the previous article, but you can also find the country bonus on the economy screen, and the region bonuses on the region screens. The country bonuses are 75% Food, 35% Weapons, and 50% Housing. The only regions with bonuses above the country bonus are 90% Food in Tasmania, 42% Weapons in South Australia, and 60% Housing in Western Australia. The pollution penalty for each type of company can be seen on the region screens from tomorrow.

Will there be changes in tax, specifically to the import of moving tickets?
Reduction in tax in general to help promote growth?
We dont have any aircraft bonus's. What incentives (if any) have we got to promote growth of them as a industry in eAus? No doubt we will need them at some point in the future to fend off attacks..
is the loan scheme that started a bunch of months ago still around?

Everything is under consideration. Currently those who signed up to be part of the Productivity Commission are floating ideas for all of these and more. Expect a discussion paper summarising these points in a few days, after which can follow public feedback and any senate votes.

Whether we try to give tax breaks and extra stimulus to the Aviation industry to flourish here, lower import taxes on Aviation, or support our citizens in setting up Aviation businesses overseas, will have to wait for more detail on the industry. All we know is that it can't be manager worked, so competing with the open market may require bonuses. And employee worked only also means needing to travel to work as manager in Aviation companies isn't an issue. Also any eAustralian citizen who sets up offshore will still pay 20% of eAustralian tax rate, and 80% of the host country. Any decisions though will need to weigh up all the factors, and balance the best interests of all.

Boss Bucks was put on hold after the resource wars announcement, but will be restarted with the likely addition of loans, or even grants, for Holding Companies. The conditions are still being discussed and any release of funds would need Senate approval.

I need a little help about what to do. Right now I only have 3x grain farm, 1x Rubber plantation and 1x Q1 Food Co. My future plan is to upgrade Q1 Food Co or make another Food Co.(I know, I'm poor xD) What should I do with the Holding Companies?

Tasmania will likely be the best option, but I will try to update tomorrow sometime on likely pollution so we can know for sure whether:

1. As a small population we should stack all our food companies in Tasmania if it leads to below average works and no pollution.

or

2. Too many food companies in Tasmania could lead to 25% pollution which would be larger than the 18% region bonus.

Most likely is 1. but it could also be somewhere in between. Best to wait a day or two to place to be sure, you will only lose a small amount of money compared to what you could lose from wrong placement.

Do I have to move to the region I want the HC in before I create it?

Yes, although you can check the percentage of bonus and pollution (from tomorrow) on the region page beforehand.

Why is all the pollution 0%?

Ordinarily this would be because the works in that region are below average. However staff have just announced on twitter that pollution calculations will start a day late, on day 3147.
