FIVE LINES

To overcome lies in the heart, in the streets, in the books
from the lullabies of the mothers
to the news report that the speaker reads,
understanding, my love, what a great joy it is,
to understand what is gone and what is on the way.

BEŞ SATIRLA

Annelerin ninnilerinden
spikerin okuduğu habere kadar,
yürekte, kitapta ve sokakta yenebilmek yalanı,
anlamak, sevgilim, o, bir müthiş bahtiyarlık,
anlamak gideni ve gelmekte olanı.

Nazim Hikmet

Congress Election Tomorrow:

Tomorrow, of course, is Congress election day.

iNCi leaders have agreed to seat five members and to participate in blocking activities to prevent bad eggs from getting into Congress and wreaking havoc. The Party Presidents and the Federal Election Commission have agreed upon a formula for maintaining a balance. Now it is up to you, the voter -- whatever your political affiliation and original national origin -- to overcome jealousies, suspicions and tribal loyalties and do what's best for the country as a whole.

Citizens!: Stay alert. Stay up late. Have your moving tickets ready. Contact your Party President or an election organizer for advice on how your vote can help the most.

On the New World stage, a period of turbulence and conflict between nations, perhaps unlike any we've seen before, is on the way. It will be a time for heros, both on the battlefield and in the contest over ideas and national purpose. So let's all rise to the challenge. Vote smart.

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda:

"A good newspaper is a nation talking to itself." -- Arthur Miller

We can’t expect to solve our problems if all we do is tear each other down. We can disagree with a certain policy without demonizing the person who espouses it. We can question somebody’s views and their judgment without questioning their motives or their patriotism.

If people pay attention, then we get good government and good leadership. And when we get lazy, when as a nation we start taking shortcuts, then it results in bad government and bad politics.

What am I trying to say? Have I quit preaching and gone to meddling?

Nah. Just this: The fact is that in this New World, nothing happens at the right place at the right time. And it is the job of journalists and writers to correct that. (LOL)

You need to vote tomorrow in the election. But you also need to vote everyday to promote the journalists, writers, thinkers, columnists, reporters, critics, poets, jokesters, artists, story tellers and wordsmiths who contribute to our national conversation.

eNASA Blasts Off:

I noted yesterday that Civil Anarchy is taking personal responsibility for giving new player recruitment a kick in the pants by personally adopting the (former) REACH program.

An update on that... He's re-branded the program as "eNASA" Here's an article about it called The New Frontier.

Kudos to Civ's civic spirit. Show your support for this kind of citizen initiative. Vote it up.
