Ho deciso di fare questo articolo speciale, raccogliendo curiosità in giro.

Il croissant: tipico dolce francese... o no?
Quando si pensa al croissant (o cornetto, o brioche, chiamatelo come volete), si pensa inevitabilmente alla Francia.
Eppure le sue origini risalgono al 1683, in seguito alla battaglia di Vienna.
Gli Ottomani che assediavano la città, per superare le mura, decisero di scavare dei tunnel col favore delle tenebre.
Ma i fornai, che lavoravano di notte, sentirono il fracasso e diederò l'allarme.
Dopo la vittoria, i fornai decisero di creare un dolce che ricordasse la mezzaluna presente sulla bandiera Ottomana.
In Italia quel nuovo dolce arrivò subito, mentre i Francesi dovranno aspettare che Maria Antonietta lo porti un secolo dopo.
I fornai parigini aggiunsero alla ricetta il burro e chiamarono la "loro" invenzione croissant.



Il Triangolo delle Bermuda: una leggenda nata da Colombo
Benchè il Triangolo delle Bermuda sia considerato un mito moderno, le prime testimonianze di strani eventi in questo tratto di mare risalgono al primo navigatore che solcò quei mari di cui abbiamo notizia: Cristoforo Colombo.
Infatti, quando entrò nella zona chiamata oggi Triangolo delle Bermuda, Colombo scrisse sul diario di bordo a proposito di strane anomalie delle bussole, che non riusciva a spiegarsi e di strani eventi atmosferici.
Annottò anche riferimenti a strane luci in cielo e a "palle di fuoco" che si inabbisavano durante la notte.



Charlie Chaplin: lui si che (non) si assomigliava
Nel 1915 venne organizzata una gara di sosia di Charlie Chaplin.
L'attore, desideroso di farsi due risate, si iscrisse sotto falso nome.
Durante la gara, probabilmente Chaplin si divertì molto a immaginare le reazioni dei giudici nello scoprire che il vincitore era il vero Charlie Chaplin.
Non è difficile immaginare la sua sorpresa quando venne eliminato prima della finale: arrivò terzo.
Charlie Chaplin era ufficialmente la terza persona più somigliante a sè stesso!



L'Impero Macedone è nato grazie alle Olimpiadi?
Nelle Antiche Olimpiadi, che si svolgevano in Grecia a Olimpia, era ammesso chiunque sapesse parlare correttamente il greco.
Un giorno Filippo, futuro re di Macedonia, iscrisse alle Olimpiadi alcuni suoi cavalli, ma non venne accettato perchè non conosceva perfettamente la lingua.
Allora lui, furioso, tornò in Macedonia giurando vendetta verso i Greci: qualche anno dopo inglobò nel suo regno la Grecia, ponendo le basi per il grande Impero di Alessandro.
Che Filippo abbia conquistato la Grecia solo per vendicare quel torto è improbabile, eppure, secondo la tradizione, da quel momento i requisiti per partecipare ai Giochi divennero meno proibitivi.



Alessandro Volta e gli gnocchi di patate
Famoso soprattutto per l'invenzione della pila e per i suoi meriti scientifici, Alessandro Volta ha dato un contributo anche alla gastronomia.
Infatti, fu lui a introcurre in Italia la coltivazione delle patate, fino a quel momento sconosciute nel nostro paese, importandole dalla corte di Francia.
Inoltre Volta trovò anche un metodo innovativo per usare il tubero: inventò gli gnocchi di patate.
Anche se probabilmente gli gnocchi hanno avuto origine dopo un tentativo fallito di cucinare un piatto di purè, hanno in comune con le pile la mente che li ha ideati.

The croissants: traditional French food... or not?
When you think at croissant, you inevitably think to France.
Yet its origins date back to 1683, following the Battle of Vienna.

But the bakers, who worked at night, heard the noise and sounded the alarm.
After the victory, the bakers decided to create a dessert that reminded the crescent moon, present on the flag of Ottomans.
In Italy the new cake came quickly, while the French will have to wait that Marie Antoinette take him a century later.
The bakers of Paris added butter to the recipe, and called it "their" invention croissant.



The Bermuda Triangle: a legend born from Colombo.

The Macedonian Empire was born thanks to the Olympic Games?
In the Ancient Olympic Games, which were held at Olympia ,in Greece, was admitted anyone who could properly speak greek.
One day Philip, the future king of Macedonia, joined some of his horses to the Olympic Games, but was not accepted because he did not know the language perfectly.

Alessandro Volta and potato dumplings

In fact, he introduced in Italy the cultivation of potatoes, hitherto unknown in our country, importing them from the court of France.
In addition Volta also found an innovative way to use the tuber: he invented the potato dumplings.
Although probably the dumplings have originated after a failed attempt to cook a dish of mashed potatoes, have in common with the batteries the mind that created them.
