Indonesian Warm-Up
Cromstar, AARP member and expert at walking uphill both ways

The last few weeks for the fighting men and women of the American military machine have been hectic, to say the least. We’ve pummeled our way across Siberia to the Baltic Sea, took in some sights and got some well-deserved beachside R&R, only to find ourselves shipped off to Hawaii so we could launch an attack on Indonesia!

Indonesia is a nation of islands, seen here

Of course, many of us remember the old days, when busting Indo was hard work. But not today! No, today, Indonesia merely serves as a warm-up for our armed forces. Get the blood pumping, make sure the guns are well maintained, all that rot. We’ve managed to easily hop from island to island across the nation here, but we’re really just killing time.

No one asked YOU, Henry

Warm-up for what you ask? Why, for the resource wars of course.

Glorious American President WildOwl has promised us many wars, many fights, many kills, and much loot.

So for now, we prepare ourselves for the real fun ahead of us!

Oh yeah, its gonna be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Resource Wars Begin, Like Storage Wars but Less Interesting

January 27th will be a day of eRepublik history. At 00:00 eRepublik time, exactly at game update, the official start of resource wars will certainly bring a plethora of new military campaigns, resistance wars, foreign transactions, and international shifts that are sure to be fascinating and exhilarating. The United States, like all other nations, does for the first time have the potential and opportunity to alter its resources in its core regions, and more importantly, has the opportunity to receive full bonuses without owning one overseas region. In the pursuit of information on this game changing event, I sat down with several cabinet members and influential US citizens on the matter.

First, get quick background on how the whole thing will work. If you haven’t already, read the in-depth version here.

Described by National Security Council Chairman Kevin Sheridan as “probably the most pivotal event the eUS will face”, it was clear with every person interviewed that the event has the potential to be massive. The mechanics of the resource wars will give nations with significant military power the immense opportunity to acquire full bonuses, and it was clear, after discussions with several administration officials, that’d we’d absolutely be putting our full efforts into getting 15/15 bonuses. This effort should be expected to be massive, and eUS citizens are advised to pay very close attention to official government media over the course of the event. “Tank” citizens like Oblige have already opened up their stockpiles of weapons, food, and more to prepare for the incredible military event about to unfold.

This is kind of like resource wars, right? -the editor

With resources playing a large role in national economies and tax income, every nation will almost certainly be using their geographical locations and strengths to their advantage to get the most out of an important event. Here’s where the event gets very interesting. While the United States is one of the nation’s that stands to gain significantly from this event, other nations will be forced into odd positions or encounters in order to gain resources that could dramatically shift the international landscape, alliances, and future foreign policy. Sheridan, Seppo, and Oblige all agreed the event has the potential to develop entirely new alliances. Oblige highlighted potential region tensions, as areas like the Balkans have few resources and the outcome of the new distribution of resources could force the nations to become more easily hostile towards one another for the economic benefits that their regions may soon develop.

The new event could also cause an even greater divide between large nations and small one’s abilities. As former president Oblige put it, “Large countries have everything to gain, small countries have everything.” For many small countries with little military power, this is very true, but the dynamic is even more interesting than that in many cases. In the cases of Australia and the Netherlands, both countries are excited about the possibility of getting rid of resources that encourage invaders. President Garmr of the Netherlands said, “It’s about time for us to lose oil and the constant invasions coming along with it” and former President of Australia Saiwun said “Small nations are happy because they can get bad bonuses and not be wiped.” Saiwun also suggested smaller countries will likely focus on resources like fish or cattle, instead of the big ticket ones like oil. On the subject of international relations, Garmr believes that “Ties are stronger than resources, but it will definitely have some effect” in reference to international alliances. He believes the real shift will happen when the resources are finalized.

Current President Wild Owl made it clear in an interview that the United States will “Likely go for full bonuses”, and I’m sure he’ll take advantage of the opportunity the country has. With alliances, Owl said “it'll cause a ripple effect that will lead to alliances getting changed down the road, as many countries will no longer be dependent on each other, while others would be.” Again reiterating that the long term effects of the resource wars will be significant.

With the first days of the resource wars rapidly approaching, NSC Chair Kevin Sheridan warns, “The first few days will be hectic” and it’s almost certain that he’ll be more than correct. Sheridan also stresses that the US will need the “cooperation of every citizen” in order to make the US’s plan work effectively to ensure we secure full bonuses for ourselves and are able to assist our allies in Pacifica as much as possible.

-Special thanks to Oblige, Kevin Sheridan, Garmr, Saiwun, Wild Owl, and Heap Seppo for their thoughts

So, first, Footer Code

It's late in the term, but better late than never, if you're a hardworking patriotic American and want to use your newspaper to spread links to patriotic American publications and forums, then here's some code you can include at the bottom of your paper. It's pretty cool and snazzy stuff.

It's patriotism distilled into copy/paste, basically

What is Congress (Baby Don't Hurt Me)

So basically, the most important of institutions

If you're reading this at time of publication, congressional elections are currently in full effect. You've either voted, or you should stop reading this wonderful piece of journalism and go vote,

Thankfully, in a post-imminent-PTO atmosphere, every top 5 on the ballot is running on slightly different platforms to help the eUS, and it's your responsibility to vote, whether it be Feds, AMP, USWP, WTP or BSP, and make your voice heard.

Go do democracy, next week we'll go through the motions on Speakers, Budgets and all the exciting things wrought today.

And if you're reading this on the 26th, in the despotic America that resulted from everyone writing in "Skynet party", you're probably regretting not taking this seriously.
