Day 2,035, 10:58 Published in Greece Greece by Asomac
Hello my friends and efriends,

this article has been written in cooperation with columbia.

So here we are counting only a few days before this event starts, an event that will bring us closer and give us the chance to meet some faces behind avatars. So we decided to give you some further info about the city, before you visit it. Lets begin.

what are the prices for food and drinks?

breakfast: For those that don’t choose to have breakfast in a hotel you can easily find nice and tasty breakfast everywhere in Thessaloniki, you can try the traditional bougatsa which is some kind of pie and it has many tastes like cream, cheese etc. Usually the prices per piece are around 1.5 - 2 euros.

traditional bougatsa, you can enjoy it either with cheese, cream, spinach etc..

lunch/dinner:if you choose to eat only a simple sandwich or a hotdog or something like the famous gyros or souvlaki in bread it will cost you around 2.5 up to 3 euros each one,if you want to add some salad inside then you'll have some extra cost of 0.20 - 0.50 euros. If you want to visit a Greek tavern then the cost per person will be around 15 to 20 euros including food, bread, salads and some retsina, wine, ouzo etc.

Greek gyros. Note that this particular gyros is probably from Athens, here in Thessaloniki we do larger portions 🙂

coffee, beers, drinks: everything here depends on which area you will choose to drink anything, coffee prices are between 2 euros up to 4 euros, beers are between 3 to 5 euros and drinks are usually between 5 to 8 euros. Most expensive cafe/bars are those that are located in the square of Aristotelous or near the sea (mind that the one we booked, however, will have special prices for us!).

greek frappe, strong coffee appropriate after tough nights!!!

cruise: there is no entrance fee for the cruise, it is a bar-boat so your only charge will be the beer or the drink you will order, prices have been mentioned above.

Alcohol, music and fun in the Aegean sea!

what will be the temperatures in Thessaloniki the days of the meeting?

Greece is a very hot country as most people know. You can visit this site that is one of the most well known and trusted to learn about the weather in Thessaloniki before you come http://www.meteo.gr/cf-En.asp?city_id=1 .
Do not bring any warm clothes with you, shorts and skirts are suitable for the day but bring at least one pair of jeans and a light jacket with you for nights and for the cruise. Also we recommend you to bring some good sun cream and carry it with you during the day and especially during the hours between 12 and 5 pm.

how dangerous is it to visit Thessaloniki?

Thessaloniki is just like all big cities around Europe. The level of criminality is not elevated. You simply need to keep an eye on money or mobiles that you carry with you. A bag that you can always control will be ok, most attention you need to pay when you go up or down from a bus and in areas with many people. For the ladies just try not to walk alone after midnight and especially in dark areas. Find a handsome gentleman to accompany you!

what about public transport?

There are plenty of buses all over Τhessaloniki and the transportation is fluent. Every bus has a specific number that shows you the route it follows. Inside buses there are given orders about the stops in Greek and English language. Cost per ticket is 0.80 euros if you buy it from a kiosk or 0.90 euros if you buy it into the bus. Public transport starts from 5.30am until midnight every day. There is also one bus 24 hours per day from airport-center-bus station and back every half an hour. Also there are many taxi stations in many places all over Thessaloniki 24 hours per day. Prices depend from the duration of the route you want to follow. We recommend you to have a Greek guy with you, or ask someone earlier about your route and the prices.

Bring some comfortable shoes for walking and enjoy the beauty of Thessaloniki.

The Music Hall of Thessaloniki, with the recently renovated walk path, next to the sea. Ideal for lonely or romantic walks.

This is the statue of Alexander the Great, located near the White Tower. That area is being redesigned and renovated as we speak, but this doesn’t ruin the feeling of awe everytime you look at it.

This is the high part of the city, with the ancient walls. From there, you have a wonderful view of all the city.

Have a nice trip and see you here!!!!
