The IRC: The life force of Ireland

The IRC
What is it? What does it do? What does IRC stand for?
Well, lets start with that last question. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It is a means to communicate between people through the means of the vastness of the internet. Thus, people from all over the world can interact with each other in a setting of sending messages, smileys, and web links to discuss certain topics of what ever it may be. People can gather into a channel to discuss the topics at hand, whether it be eIreland, USA Politics (many blood sucking creatures), or Angry Birds.
When starting IRC, either through a web browser, or a program like mIRC, it may be a little strange at first, as it was with me. I had never used IRC before. (speaking in terms of 3 years ago) But as I got used to it, and socialized with the other eIrish citizens, I found life in eIreland more interesting. And as a matter of fact, I couldn't leave eIreland for much time. (Believe me, I traveled, and always came back.) Speaking to characters like Snakeyes, uaithne, Igor, kumnaa, and many others, was rather entertaining, and we discussed toe future of eIreland, and eWorld news. as well as the chit-chat of off topic chatter.
Now, why do I bring this up?
well, call me nostalgic, but I miss those times. Times that can happen again. Nowadays, the Irish Channel(s) are a bore. Few people are there, few chat, and most spam rumors, hatred, and vulgar words. (Don't worry Padraig, I won't say names.) Now the Irish IRC is a mess. (Although, I don't think Dyslexia is a bad word. That oughta be removed from the bw list.)
Now I may be ranting on and on and on and on... But. The IRC is where we can come together and be United as eIrishmen and women. We had a blast on the IRC (3 years ago). Whats stopping it from happening again?
So I invite all you non-IRC users to open a tab today; or tomorrow, depending on what time you have; and start getting to know one another, and unite Ireland. And pleas, oh please, no flaming, spamming, bad words (Padraig, I won't be saying names) and no name calling, mud slinging, and just plain uncalled for stuff. Wherever your imagination takes you to that.

Good article.
Voted.
If you're interested in IceChat here's a quick start up guide of sorts: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-irc-a-libertarian-awareness-1866379/1/20
You can IRC for business, fun, strategy, and all that. Keep in mind that the minimum enforced age in eRepublik is 14 years old so keep it clean, especially on "public" lines. Pull together, solve problems, or relax. If someone is hounding you? take a breather from it and return in a week or what not.
Its like a Bar.
Good article mate o7
oh, I forgot to add the link, thx. xD
The wiki now displays both Irish channels. Why we have two is anyone's guess. Looks like a Ministry of Community issue to me. And best resolved by the Dail.
What's an IRC?
: P
If you read it, you'll fine out. xD
(I know that you know what it is)
even tho irc activity globally has decreased, irish channels are still the funnest

Good to see someone encouraging this, currently our channel is shit, nobody talks really and when there is discussion it dies rather quickly. I am more comfortable in the channels of other countries than our own which is not how it should be, I for one would love to see it used much more in positive ways and not simply for occasional trolling and bullshit. However, I'm not very good at starting conversation but hey, if you see me in there then ping me if you want to chat and we can get some discussion going which may encourage others to talk and strengthen the unity between eIrish regulars.
There are a lot more than 2 Irish channels, Art.
There are a handful of eIreland channels. There is a channel for most MUs. There are channels for most parties. There are supplemental channels for various groups within eIreland. There are constant temporary channels as the needs arise for discourse.
Just like there are at least 4 eIrish forums. Then there are some party and MU forums. There are international forums that eIrish are welcome to join.
Likewise, there are dozens of eIrish communication channels on other chat programs, messengers, etc...
There is too much to follow and keep track of, and participate in, so I join none of them. If you can't contact me in-game about an issue, then it must not be important. There is the mail system, and shouts, and articles, and comments. There are plenty of in-game communication tools.
Wah, don't get me started on the horrors of IRC.
