Painful Decisions

DR. PAIN: HERO OR ZERO?

If I had to make a list of the greatest eSwiss presidents of all time, I wouldn't have a lot of trouble. After all, there haven't been very many great presidents in our time. A "worst eSwiss presidents" list might be a bigger challenge, since there are so many more to choose from.

This month, I will be eagerly waiting to see which one of my lists Dr. Pain will land on. He has the potential to be one of the greatest eSwiss presidents ever, but he's also in a precarious situation that involves balancing two disputing factions.

For the first time in months, we have a president who can really bridge the canyon of mistrust between the Liberals and the Neutrals. We have a president who can consolidate the two banks, reform the financial system, reestablish the army, and restore our dignity. Will Dr. Pain be our Swiss Messiah? Over the following month, I intend to analyze, discuss, and critique every single one of Dr. Pain's decisions.

After all, someone's gotta keep him honest.

ANALYZING THE CABINET

Before you dive into criticisms of Pain's cabinet, you have to know one thing. 50% of choosing a cabinet is about politics. Not only did the doctor have to recognize talent and place it appropriately, he also had to reward the people who supported him. This would probably explain the presence of Clifford in the cabinet.

Now, on to the ministries:

Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Last month, Xeraes was a huge help in the diplomatic negotiations which led to the liberation of three of our core regions. Reaffirming his position was an important test, of which I am glad to see Dr. Pain passed with flying colors. More importantly, he managed to secure Jelly9473 in our government. Jelly, like Custer with the army, is an extremely capable overseas citizen. He will not be residing in eSwitzerland, but will still provide invaluable service to our government.

Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economy
I was pleased to see Migrant as our next MoE. As for Walther and the MoF, I cannot say the same. Unless Dr. Pain intends to change it, the MoF will be responsible for managing the funds. This means that if Dr. Pain wants to bring together to two banks, the PTL will be forced to trust Walther with their money.

Not gonna happen. I consider Walther a genius with eRep economics, but he has an annoying tendency of fabricating certain facts when it works in his interests. I doubt this will be much trouble with an SNP president serving, but given his past many Swiss may have some problems with him handling their cash. Therefore, I think it may have been wiser to switch Walther and Migrant's positions.

Minister of Defence
Not much to say about this one. F4uc0n is loyal, dedicated, and hardworking, and will accomplish a lot in this position. Also, placing him in the cabinet was a nice show of respect... due to an error F4uc0n was not proposed as president. If he had been running, Dr. Pain would have had quite a bit more trouble securing his shiny CP medal.

Minister of Interior
Okay, it sounds bad. Our good friend Clifford Burns is here, who was the main architect of our destruction by vengeful Germans. But think about the facts a little more deeply, and you'll realize that Dr. Pain's move here was pure and utter genius.

1) He has to include Clifford in his cabinet. Clifford is one of the men in charge of the SNP, which proposed him for president. Not placing him in the cabinet would be a slap in the face, and we'd have a lot more time getting his approval for, well, anything.

2) He wants to keep Clifford out of foreign affairs. If Clifford was involved in negotiations, we'd have to fight the whole war again. The MoI is the best way to isolate Clifford from other countries while still keeping him in the cabinet.

3) He needs to make sure Clifford has no authority or power. The Ministry of Interior has one real responsibility, keeping the people informed, up to date, and active. Guess what? Dr. Pain just made a new ministry, which has exactly that job! This way, not only goes Pain have full SNP consent with legislation and unity proposals, but he also makes sure Clifford is out of the way when he gets down to turning our country into a world superpower.

This astonishing display of intelligence by Dr. Pain gives me high hopes about this month. Very high hopes.

Minister of Communication
Well, really, there's not much to say. Vincent's active and hardworking, and placing him in the cabinet is showing the always admired graciousness in victory. Mehmet is a bit more confusing, but since I don't really know him I don't want to jump the gun on commentary. Even if he is useless, Vincent probably won't have too much trouble doing the job for him.

THE FINAL WORD
A cabinet does not define a president. In order for it to work, it must have a wise man at the reins. Dr. Pain has the greatest potential I have ever seen, great enough that I spent time writing this article even though I'm hungry and want to eat dinner.

With great power comes great responsibility, Dr. Pain. They said it in Spiderman, so it must be true.

Rule wisely.
