Oaks 4 Congress (TAXES, 2nd Term)

Day 2,863, 15:26 Published in USA USA by Matt Oaks

Back once again.

It's been a month since the last WTP Congress primary. That means it's been a month since I achieved second place in my very first primary!

While some voted for me in that election because they saw me doing good work in my WTP positions as recruitment and Chief of Staff, keeping the party running, many new players most likely voted for me because they saw me or my name A LOT.

That was my marketed point last time and it will be again. I remain, even after all the predictions of "burnout", one of the most active players in this party. I look forward to continuing that trend in another term in congress!

Brief history of my lengthy(not-so-lengthy) eRep career for those who don't know me:

In the few days after my eRepublik birth I took the initiative and contacted Hale26, the party leader of WTP, looking for any way I could help the party I had become a part of. I was given a position, that I believe enabled me to be the eCitizen I am today. It allowed me to work everyday on the front lines bringing new people to the great party that is WTP. That position was Deputy of Recruitment.

After that, I dedicated myself to being active, consistent, engaging and generally a good party member. During my time in Recruitment our party saw the biggest member number resurgence in almost 2 months, a feat I and the party's leadership team were very proud of.

Then, MazzyCat became our Party President. I was chosen by Mazzy to be her Chief of Staff, a huge leap from my previous position. I believe this leap not only attests to my success in my previous position but also my activity within the party, which I think made me stand out. I now am entering my second month in this position and hope to bring about the same positive changes that grew our party so much last month.

Last month was my first term in congress. After gaining a large number of WTP votes in the primary I was second on the list for WTP Congress candidates. My first month was both a great learning experience and an opportunity to evaluate issues and have an impact on our nation. I hope to do this again this coming month!

Now, the topic you've all been waiting for. It's been THE topic in Congress, breaking through much of the noise and political posturing. That is the issue of TAXES.

Where do I stand on taxes?

I want to start my answer off with an admission. My first month in congress was a learning experience. I chose to observe congress proceedings, while still voting in as much as possible. The question of taxes was raised very early into my term as a member of congress. Should we lower them? My gut reaction was YES. Yes because our people had just been promised a war that wasn't carried out and told that "these taxes are necessary to foot the bill for it". Well, foot the bill the people did. But after the battles were lost, I felt that congress had an obligation to lower the taxes back to pre-war levels or even lower as a nod to the mistakes that were made. But what happened? I voted NO.

This was a mistake.

To me this issue of taxes was not tangible, I didn't participate much in the economy meta game and hadn't heard too many complaints about high taxes around the time of the airstrike. So I voted no, as the clear majority was voting yes.

Next time will be different. Next time I will vote YES to lower taxes.

People ARE being affected. The people DO deserve a break. The government messed up and the people should not continue to pay for that failure. So, I am officially joining Cubby as the second WTP Congress candidate to be in support for lower taxes.

With that all being said, I hope you vote for a fresh perspective, an active player and one you can trust. Vote Oaks in the WTP Primary: http://wtpparty.tk/
