INSEPARABLE
On the riverbank, secluded and unbothered
there were a maple and a viburnum entwined with each other.

It was once while I was sitting tired in their shade
that the viburnum itself told me about their fate

with the voice of leaves’ quiet swishing sound :
“I used to be a maiden on this same old dreary ground,

where sunkissed all day long I used to run,
but in my heart was yet another kiss, lit another sun!

And this sun, it wasn’t shining from thousands of feet
For it was gazing at me right across the street.

Ivo, he was gazing at me every night and day
I stood there sad and listened to him say:

“My first love, my darling, don’t you wallow in despair,
so what if our parents don’t like us as a pair?

His words were as sweet as bitter - the strife -
we weren’t, it seems, to be together alive…

I was coming from the well when I saw
many, many people gathered at his door.
