This is Part 9 in a 10 part series called How to Succeed in eUSA.

Part 9 - Monsters and Aliens

The best part about eRepublik is that it creates gigantic personalities.

eUSA is ripe with people who have played enough (and continue to play to some extent) that you should probably get them onto your friends list so that you can keep up with their pulse. In this article I will share a few biased musings on some of the main characters of eRepublik… people you are bound to run into sooner or later… people I hope you do.

There are some folks who belong on these lists who are not active too much any more. I’ve left them off. I wish they would all come back.

There are also a TON of great people out there not on my list. I am trying to focus on the “Larger-than-life” types. If someone on this list shouts a link, you follow it. Period.

Also, I could write an entire second Monsters and Aliens article detailing international characters. Here I am only focusing on Citizens of eUSA.

Nice Guys

ligtreb
True, ligtreb isn’t always very active. But every time you see him, he will be leaving an encouraging comment in a newspaper or on a forum thread. He never has a negative word to say. He enjoyed great success during his active days as a player. Now he hangs around handing out pats on the back.

Rainy Sunday
OK. This segment should be titled “Nice Guys and Gals”. But I hate the word “Gal”, “Girl” is too prepubescent a word to describe our women, and “women” isn’t alliterative. So I just stuck to “Guys”. But Rainy Sunday isn’t a guy. She’s one of the most elder statesmen of kindness in our community. She knows how to link you to whatever you need and will do it with a smile. She knows everyone, and if Rainy Sunday contacts you… you answer. She’s the bomb diggity.

Pig N Zen
Pig owns the eUS Forums. He’s a huge benefactor of eUSA (it does cost money to run a server you know…) and one of our National truth-tellers. If Pig says it’s a certain way… he’s right.

Mazzy Cat
No, I am not intentionally going boy, girl, boy, girl. And yes, Mazzy’s a… well, she’s a cat. She’s a cat who gives out cookies. Cookies are good. So find Mazzy Cat and she will be your friend. There are few in our community more open to strangers and new faces than Mazzy.

Melissa Rose
Mel has been around for a long time and has done just about everything. She’s profoundly interested in the person behind the avatar, so when you get to know Melissa Rose you are meeting a human being. She’s sweeter than honey and very savvy. (Unfortunately, Mel has one foot out the door in this game - a major RL change that has resulted in her departure. She will be greatly missed, especially in the Federalist Party.)

John Largo
Largo is a mega tank in eRepublik. He’s also been around the Political block a lot. He’s very well connected across Party lines and usually supports players who exercise respect in their game. Friend him if for no other reason than to watch the Battle Hero announcements pile up in your news feed!

KaraBeth
What can I say? I’ve always had a thing for KB, even when we were fighting. When I was a newb, her newspaper was my very first subscription. She has, at various times, been extremely active in the meta game where she was a Federalist Party icon for years and has become an EZC icon as well. If it weren’t such a dorky move, I’d eMarry her.

Hale26
Hale’s a builder. This means his personality type is such that he’s agreeable to just about anyone. Add to that the fact that he’s become a very knowledgeable player and is the brains behind many good things to come out of both WTP and the central Government. A future CP?

Josh Frost
Here’s a guy who could probably also belong in the next list of characters because there is a small minority of people who can’t stand him. But there is no denying (in my book) that at the end of the day he’s one of the good guys. He needs to play more though.

There are plenty more, but let’s move on to:

Bad Guys

Nobody in my “Bad Guy” list is truly “Bad”. They appear here because they are significantly divisive or controversial and each has a particular set of people who consider them “bad”. Everyone in this list is my friend, so I personally recommend that you make them your friend also. You just don’t have to like them.

Henry Pfeiffer Arundel
Pfeiffer is sort of the poster boy for the dark underside of eRepublik Politics. His methodology is only popular among those who are on the same winning side he is on. And he is usually winning, though most of his victories only ever came to him with accompanying losses. But because he has mastered the art of machiavellian politics, he has many enemies. It’s fun to be his friend. Or, maybe it’s more fun to hate him. You decide.

Oblige
At times a petulant child, at other times the indignant imp, Oblige is always there. A fact which also makes him extremely successful. And Oblige has turned his success into an empire. He has spent an enormous amount of time and effort in the Meta-Game, always thinking about how to parlay his time investment into political capital. Some people just try to hate him because he spends a lot of RL money in this game. You’ll probably like him.

Israel Stevens
People say they don’t like IS, but nobody can ever give me a single good reason why. He’s opinionated, usually pretending to be half drunk, probably is drunk at least that often, and has clearly defined political allegiances. I don’t get it, what’s not to like? But because enough people say he’s a bad guy he’s on my list. Whatever. I like him.

I’m keeping this list short on purpose. And you notice I am not including any females in this list. There’s a reason for that.

Tin Hats

Franklin Stone
FS has played this game for quite a while (he used to operate a different Citizen) and has always been a pot-stirrer. He’s highly principled about certain things, and exercises a healthy array of suspicions. His relentless disdain for Pfeiffer borders on paranoia - even if he is probably right. Oh, and his newspaper is called... wait for it... The Tin Hat.

Dr. Walter Bishop
Formerly Chickensguys. DWB can make you laugh at times, then two days later you’ll be swearing at him. He won’t hesitate to send a PM to the entire country espousing some made-up diatribe even though he knows it makes him look foolish. Every now and then he does something half-brilliant. Or is that just the sun reflecting off his tin hat? He's not an eUS Citizen anymore because he got pretty much run out. Oh well, he should come back and torture us some more.

Thedillpickl
He really doesn’t belong in the same conversation as Chickensguys, so I hope he forgives me for this. He equally qualifies for the Nice Guys section. But his playing style is just quirky enough to merit a Tin Hat award. Why? Well, you just have to friend him and find out. You’ll thank me for it. Also no longer an eUS Citizen. DAMMIT.

Tenshibo
Tenshibo is a caricature of Tenshibo. That’s his game. It’s hilarious.

Greeling
Whenever greeling pops up anywhere, clear the room because the BS is gonna start flying. That’s what has made every one of his epically ridiculous runs for CP so amusing. I hope he runs again soon. Legendary player.

Derphoof
Best shouts. Funniest articles. Must-have-friend.

Pariahs

There aren’t too many prominent people in this game that I would say to just stay away from, but there are a couple. These players make this list because there is almost zero redeeming value to their game. These are the true “bad” guys - the players you are better off ignoring completely rather than wasting your energy wrangling with them. And with everyone on this list… trust me, it will always come to wrangling.

Ronald Gipper Reagan
The less said about him the better because he is so starved for the attention. Significant material has been published detailing why this particular player is to actually be avoided for reasons of Real Life safety. He’s a bad egg in an otherwise very good dozen. IGNORE.

Nevermind.

...aaaaand that’s the whole list. Everyone else.

Every single other person I’ve ever met in this game I have appreciated on some level. If I've interacted with you, I've enjoyed it. When I finally quit this game, the people I will miss most are probably not even on this list. But these are the ones new players should make immediate friends with. All but one that is.

So get busy getting social. It wouldn’t hurt to start by friending the good guys and the bad guys. Let the fun begin there.
