There has been a lot of whining in the media lately, from the usual sources, saying that we should offer our Northern Nemesis peace.
This is probably the dumbest idea that we could entertain as a Nation, but I’ll forgive the various authors spouting this nonsense because they are generally whining about something. So really, if it wasn’t about Canada, it would be about taxes, or the USAF, or elitism, or Pfeiffer, or whatever minor incident that has their panties in a bunch this week.
eRepublik claims to have 4 modules. Economic, Media, Political and Military. But we all know it only has one.
-Economic module is a joke. It amounts to buying gold now, so you can buy more later.
-Media module is serviceable, but they removed the best part (foreign publishing) years ago, and never looked back.
-Political module was last updated a year and a half ago, and it was for the worse (Party Congressional Voting).
The only module that the admins care about, and the one that the majority of the player base cares about is the Military Module. It is the module that the Admins have sunk the most time into, with changes from Divisions, to bazookas, training grounds, tournaments, etc etc. This is a War Simulator that has a little political window dressing.
War is the one constant of eRepublik. Nothing else really matters. The masses want war. Military Units want war. Politicians want war. Everybody loves fighting. And this is why peace with Canada is such an asinine idea.
The idea that we would willing give up the chance to grind our neighbor into the ground is laughable.
Within two weeks of ending the war in the north, the same people who are crying now, would be crying about not having war. ‘Chain shouting’ that President Emma push the button and give them something to do. Fighting for our allies would not be enough for them.
And when Molly relents, and invades a small country, they would be upset that we are picking on our smaller neighbors.
And when she decides to attack someone our own size, we would get wiped. Because the same people complaining about everything, can’t be bothered to get in a room and coordinate a National Defense.
How do I know all this?
Because it has all happened before.
When we were in Circle of Trust, these same folks complained that we only fought for our allies.
When fingerguns attacked Republic of Taiwan, they complained that we were picking on smaller nations.
They demanded that we attack Serbia; a worthy enemy. The politicians held firm on not provoking Serbia for as long as they could, until Artela relented and pushed the button.
We were swiftly wiped.
And they had the audacity to complain about being wiped.
This game is cyclical. Alliances rise and fall. Win and lose. The same goes for countries and communities.
We currently have a regional war that is important to us economically. Canada is not a push over, and can certainly give us a run for our money (when Dennis feels like dropping $1k). We have victories and defeats. But ultimately, we are gaining a hell of a lot more than we are losing in this war.
The marginal tax income, the extra resources are benefits to this war. Plus, war engages the community. It gives new players a reason to stick around. They know where Canada is, and can understand regional rivalries. How many of us knew where Serbia was prior to playing this game? How many understand why they are our sworn enemy?
There is just no pleasing some members of this country. They will whine and cry and complain about anything and everything. It doesn’t matter what happens. It is never good enough for some people.
If you don’t like fighting Canada, then don’t fight them. It is literally that simple.
And while Seppo is conspiring with the traitor McVicker; drawing up personal Non Aggression Pacts for their own amusement, the rest of us can go about keeping our 80% weapon bonuses. And also making sure that we get our fair portion of Canadian tax income.
This game is built off war, and war we shall have.

Excellent article as always. You and aramec are two of the best writers in the game and I always look forward to reading what you put out. You know how it works, contrarians will be contrarians even when it is not backed by facts.
Keep writing, I've missed your articles, even when I disagree with them they are still vital for players to help them understand complex issues. Darwin knows I read all of them when I was a noob lol \o/

Whether one likes constant war with Canada or not, it's undeniable that the basis of this article is fact.
People complain, "NE Serbia," or "Pick on somebody your own size," but too often, it seems to me that there really is nobody our size to pick on, and if there is someone, we have a bad habit of not rallying together as a country and subsequently walking into a beating or an embarrassing mediocre campaign against an enemy we should have handled without trouble.
If anything, at least Canada gives us a regional conflict against an enemy that matters to noobs and keeps people around. To me, that's the greatest boon of this whole thing. If this prolonged invasion is really hurting Canada's community, then I do feel some sympathy for them, but even now, I echo something I said in the beginning of all this:
Congratulations Canada. You matter enough for most of the eUS to consistently want to fight you, and unlike Serbia, noobs know where you are (or should be) without looking at a map. Now, I know the fight isn't always fair, and the numbers are a bit imbalanced, but get up and fight. Let's do what we can to make this crappy game more entertaining for both of our countries. Really, what else is there to do?

Fingerguns attacked Taiwan because "They" ( I don't know who "They" is but I know "I" did) pleaded with Fingerguns Not to attack China. Which was the "other" considered target. At the time, the attack was either China (who funny enough at that moment had eAmerican commune members present in it) or we attack Taiwan. I myself Voted and Guns to attack as apposed to China. Good decision.
Also I don't remember anybody ("they would be upset that we are picking on our smaller neighbors.")

*derp* Guess who was fg's dCoS then. Yep, that's right, little ol' me. I remember what was said. You feel safe bringing that up because (as usual, past PotUS quite often become scarce) fg isn't around to contradict you. Operation Gangnam Style was originally supposed to be to support the then US allies of Japan and South Korea. This was not supposed to last more that a week or two and ended up blowing up in our faces so we bailed out. People complained because the war turned to the US having it's ass handed to it.
I love how the BS artists come out of the woodwork when they think that no one remembers shit.

Now in regards to the current state of buffoonery that you smart elite types are waging with Canada let me say this. We are not your fathers Canada, there is a new pickle in the Canadian forest. I left the US because people there have a hard time not listening to the rhetoric persons such as yourself spew forth. Switzerland thought they wanted change but it turned out not to be so. Canadians are ready for a change. True there are some stuck in the old ways but several are tired of being pissed on. We're not your whipping boys anymore. You claim that when we were in CoT the complaints were that we fought for our allies - No, I have never complained about fighting for our allies.
You claim that when Fingerguns attacked RoC that I complained about attacking a weaker enemy - Wrong, I complained that the attack was extremely poorly coordinated. We lost that war, don't you remember?
You claim that when we get wiped that we're not around to organize national defense - Wrong, last time I got myself into the NSC staff and worked 16 hours a day many days to organize the national defense. I was also a part of the team that worked through the entire occupation and organized how we were going to take care of everything. I also took the time to write articles to make sure that EVERYONE and not just those on IRC and with behind the scene knowledge got the details of what was happening.
I was also one of the louder people about attacking Canada, they are our natural expansion. That does not mean that I want a long war that drains our damage and makes us spend 3m. You think this war benefits us? That instead of signing a NAP that secures the regions that we need, a NAP that also protected our allies. With a NAP we would actually be able to have stable 10/10 instead, but maybe we're better off with 9/10? Think it's more worth to have constant drains that cost money to get those 1k daily tax income from their regions?
You think the endgame is signing a NAP and do nothing? I don't see where any of us said that was a good idea. There are several other nations that we can attack.

I think there are legitimate reasons to end the war with eCanada, whether you think the reasons to continue the war are more compelling is one thing, but to label everyone who is for the conclusion of the war a whiner is as ridiculous as when franklin stone accuses everyone in favor of something as being an elitist or pfeifferist.
Well, an article that is in favor of continuing the war with eCanada just wouldn't be the same without the unnecessary ad hominem. Seriously, all of the articles that have been published recently in favor of the war, no matter how well written or reasoned, seem to need to call opponents of the war stupid or whiners.

I was there for the e u.s. wipe i remember alot of the events posted in this article. I can totally see why this war with cananda is not only necessary, it is manageable and important. for as long as they are in bed with serbia is at least as long i want to wring maple syrup out of these guys.

Well considering that the Americans that I've spoken too often lack knowledge about the geography outside of America one can assume that it does not cover it unless you go for a higher level geography class. Also talked to a lot of Americans that have told me that they really haven't studied a lot of history and geography other than American.
Okay. Our public schools suck in the World History department*, but we're talking about a country that we've dropped bombs on within the lifetime of most of the people playing this game. Education doesn't end with school.
*(My state requires one year of world history OR world geography, which is shameful.)

You're wasting money and damage with Canada, and it isn't helping you climb the ladder either. All the stats seem to point to a situation where they're bleeding you dry with a mere fraction of the resources. Small Serbian investments could greatly increase the damage done to US damage distribution and national prestige to boot, and you can bet your ass the Canadians are calling for just such an investment regularly if they had any sense.
As a citizen of a US ally, I would ask that you all think about your objective in Canada. Total domination of the country is an asinine objective, it drains money, damage, organisational manpower, and a lot of political time. Invading and attacking Canada is less of the problem than your utterly unrealistic wargoals...
