My dear eIrish comrades,

This article will attempt to concisely explain the concepts of e-Socialism and Banism and their integral links to each other and Ireland's future.

e-Socialism, often referred to plainly as socialism, is not tied to the actual existing political philosophy in the real world. It is unique in eRepublik. You cannot define e-socialism by employing the RL ideology. This is not debatable. That begs the question: what is socialism in the context of eRepublik?

There are several currents of thought about what constitutes socialism and this has certainly changed with the times. Historically, back in the time of Brian Boru, socialism was thought to be providing food and weapons to soldiers, national military organizations (before military units existed), establishing communes, and hoisting the red flag over the Dáil. This is simplifying it a bit as I did not live in the time of Boru. The times changed and along with it the game. Organizations were dismantled thus crippling commune-structures and eventually communes became a comparatively weak economic structure. This could be seen as a full attack on socialism by Plato.

MikeBane, who formulated the ideology known as Banism, established a different line of thought of what constituted socialism. Initially Banism followed a similar philosophy of strong national military, establishing a national healthcare system, 'liberal' immigration policy, and utilizing market socialism since the market has always been intricately tied to the national and New World economy. Later in time he established Neo-Banism which is used synonymously with Banism today. It espouse😛 community building, political freedom, education, and social equality. This is very much what Banist thought proposes now. This symbolized MikeBane's radical shift from the old definition of what constituted socialism.

Revolutionary flag of Banism , the Revolutionary Banist Party

Essentially the Banist conception of socialism is that socialism should be concerned with building up the social aspect of eRepublik. This involves community engagement and development, attracting new players, providing social entertainment, spaces for players to socialize and develop comradery and friendship, publishing articles and commenting on them, pretty much anything that emboldens one of the most powerful aspects of eRepublik. Why do you really log back onto eRepublik? To win battle medals? To earn more currency? Hardly. I imagine we all log on because we have some investment in our communities, the friends we have made, and the never-ending political battles that are a form of entertainment and fun.

So how is socialism/Banism tied to eIreland's destiny?

Without striving for socialism/Banism eIreland will continue to crumble under its own weight. If the eIrish radical Left has any goal it is to revive our community from its long paralyzed slumber. The next question that may come to mind is: how do we do this?

The Revolutionary Banist Party has made some radical proposals in recent history. Firstly we sought to re-establish eIrish University which attempted to bring back a school for new and old players alike who could study the happenings in eIreland and the New World. We have suggested the creation and establishment of the Dublin Commune which would seize political power from the Dáil/Dictator and bring it into the hands of political parties and individual players. It was to become a counter-institution to that of the State in which there would not be a select few players wielding political power. It would also empower smaller parties, individuals outside of parties, and be able to dispose of corrupt/inefficient governments/rogue dictators by coordinating mass pan-political party action. These two initiatives alone offer eIreland something no other nation has. The Dublin Commune has inspired revolutionaries abroad to aspire to achieve their own Commune.

So when we Banists speak of our ideology or socialism for that matter, what we are speaking for is strengthening our community. We recognize that the power is within the people, not the pixel. We may be occupied but never defeated so long as we have a community. The inevitable result of a strong community is liberation - both social and national. That is the ideological root of Banist/Socialist philosophy in contemporary eRepublik.

We of the Revolutionary Banist Party will only endorse a candidate if they understand this fundamental conception of socialism. We need radical ideas, not old ones simply rehashed with promises of national liberation. We are asking for genuine liberation, not a return to the same old politicking that has plagued eIreland for too many eras now.
