ENGLISH VERSION

You may be wondering why the newspaper called "List Bobovac”, some know, some do not, so I will explain the name with this article!

Real Life “List Bobovac" are a newspaper of the croatian people in small town named Vareš, it’s a former mining city in central Bosnia, where I was born. That’s the main reason why I named my newspaper with the same name.

Bobovac is the most important and best fortified city of medieval Bosnia it was built on a rock at the south side of the mountains named “Dragovskih and Mijakovskih poljica” , southwest of Vareš. Thanks to the location and equipment it was considered as the best Bosnian medieval fortified city. The city was raised by the ban Stephen II Kotromanić in the 14th century, and later served as the headquarters of most rulers, especially at the period of the reign of Stephen II, the Bosnian kings, until the end of Bosnia's independence, when the Turks conquered Bosnia in the 1463. year.

Bobovac due to its geo-strategic, military and political significance was the target of conquerors. It’s location and terrain allowed the defense and was a military and administrative headquarters of the Bosnian kings together with Kraljeva Sutjeska (about 10 - 15 km away from Bobovac), which was without fortification, and had more administrative and political significance.

It kept the Bosnian royal crown. There used to be a royal burial chapel, in it were buried three Bosnian king Stjepan Ostoja, Tvrtko II Kotromanić and Stjepan Tomasevic. The Ottomans besieged Bobovac at the19th May and conquered the city at 21st May 1463. after only three days of fighting. Some sources say that the city led to heavy fighting and that the Ottomans used guns sent by a German named Joerg from Nuernberg. It is also said that Prince Radak, the person who operated at that time with the city, surrendered Bobovac thinking they will be rewarded, but he was executed by the Ottomans after surrendering.

Rapid decline of Bobovac, which is believed to be able to withstand a two-year siege, surprised the King Stjepan Tomasevic and prevented him to gather troops and gain foreign aid. Thus, the crews of Visoko and some other towns surrendered without a fight. After his capture, Bobovac was destroyed by the Ottomans, but due to his great strategic importance once again built some facilities required for their stay. The Ottoman garrison was in Bobovac until the 1626. when it was abandoned due to loss of the strategic importance of the continuation of the Ottoman conquest to the north when the city remains deep in the background. The royal burial chapel has been reconstructed, but some of unapproved methods, so that it’s value is impaired.

Showed rock called Radak’s rock, the above-mentioned prince who governed Bobovac, according to legend, Radak surrendered the city and agreed to serve the Sultan, but the Ottomans thrown him into the pit from that rock, with the words "If you betrayed your crown, you will also betray our crown".

End for the end xD
