Anatomy of a Quit

Day 1,327 of the New World
"...but it's so hard to dance that way when it's cold and there's no music."
— Tom Waits
Apparently some people are quitting the game.
If they'd quit, that'd be news.
For like a day.
But they never quite do quit, do they? There they are, lingering around... weighing in on National Affairs as if they had never left. Which of course they never will. The attention is too much of a drug.
But they say they're quitting. Which of course sends ripples of frustration everywhere because there's this idea that quitting is inevitable and better get out before Plato takes away, oh I don't know, my keyboard or something, and the next thing you know one fake quitter has caused 60 new players to follow suit. Only the new player quits for real because they've got no reason to linger around yet.
It's mostly oldfgts that are bellyaching about how many people are quitting the game though, because it is mostly oldfgts that are pretending to quit.
Quitting must be tons of fun for oldfgts too, because some of them have done it a half dozen times or more. Is there a "Quitter" medal I don't know about?
Surely he must be an eRep oldfgt.
Here's The Anatomy of the Quit:
Get drunk or stoned.
Get pissed off at Plato.
Publish an article about how quitting is the only option.
Pass out while 44 newbies read the article and find a different game.
Wake up.
So if you've quit, shut up about it and get out.
Meanwhile there is a daily crop of new players who might just stick around if there wasn't so much damn noise about how _______________ this game is.
I'd really rather you stick around though. The game is kinda fun.

votado :😁
Rage quit is so last year. Besides, it is much easier to chip away at erep's player base from within. 44 esuicides from one article is amazing success though.
Regrettably there is some truth to the complainers' "mantra of eRep decline." I was a big Admin support, even after the initial "Lana Training for Gold" mistake in December 2009, but the big changes in the last six months and especially last year's v2 debacle make it hard for Admin to be credible anymore.
Nice work.
votado 🙂
I rage stayed.
I rage stayed x2
Haha.. that's great.
I rage commented!

I chuckle because once a member of my former MU pulled a rage quit, the kind that states "I'm leaving in x# of days", and predictably never left. A couple of days after their personal D-day I asked in IRC, "hey, didn't you quit?" and promptly was chastised as if I was the bad guy... haha. "Let me lift the rug for you, so everyone else can sweep your sh*t under it!"
If you need to announce your rage quit to EVERYONE, you are pretty much not going anywhere. It is the ones who slip away quietly, usually saying nothing, or the ones who have RL make that decision for them whom I tend to miss and respect the most.

This article made me quit.
See you tomorrow.
when i finally quit, i will keep logging on every day to see if anyone is talking about my quitting.
Maybe quitters come back because they quit quitting ?
Votado
if you gonna quit, the best way is to get your account deleted or insult admins in the worst possible way, or share pornographic images in your newspaper.
as i couldnt do either of these, im still hanging around lol.

Voted, of course, but I don't think that's the only reason newbies aren't staying around. I've been around for 5 months now and have yet to be persuaded to get more heavily involved. Sure, there's Plato's irresponsibly anti-player policies and downright refusal to work with players to make this a better game (i.e. why our players have to develop things like eRA -and- keep it publicized through word of mouth), but there's also a sort of organization of elitist circles of which new players are hard up to break into.
@Androo Constantine: I would almost dido that but I noticed you are not in a military outfit atm...consider joining one, hell check out ST6 to be honest its the only thing keeping me in this game
Very true, voted.
@ Androo Constantine: The Federalist Party, EZCompany, heck even life in Government now is all amazing. None of these things require me to buy Plato Gold. They are my community. Friends. The fun is totally built into that. The eRepublik interface is just what brought us together.
Find the real people in this game. You will love it.
When Plato screwed with the media mod, I got pissed. We got over it and figured out ways to make it fun.
When Plato screwed with the econ mod, I got pissed. It's not much fun but I can make money.
When Plato screwed with the war mod, meh, not so pissed. But I'm not a military strategist.
Every time I got pissed, I wanted to quit. You guys made me keep wanting to come back. So I did quit... I quit playing Plato's game. I'm going to stick around and possibly go down with the ship if she sinks. xD
So true Thedillpickl.
eJamaica !!! : http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/ejamaica-1818177/1/20
To be honest, the new players may be quitting anyway because the good parts of the game - economic and military have been gutted.
When everyone has some production capacity and there's no "skill" involved in working and earning a higher pay scale, then where is the incentive to develop yourself in-game and get a better economic position?
The military module now rewards countries that have the most bots and players with nothing else to do but play all day long.
Older players want to quit, but can't tear themselves away and wait for the latest admin outrage to be perpetrated, while the newer ones wonder what they've missed and see that they haven't missed a thing, so they go.
x2
subbed. stoopid oldfgts.
i did not read it!
The pickl and mccvii take the cake with their comments. People put so much into the game that leaving quietly feels like abandoning this place without a fight. It's part duty of the oldfarts to let the new ones know that there was a different time, an Old Republik, which was going in different direction than gold clicking.
USA have 300 million people, what about baby boom instead of quitting ?
