1st Issue: Our National Conversation
Gerald Sutton
My name is Gerald Sutton and I am a brand new player to the game. IRL been active in politics and was intrigued by a game with an interesting politics module. Over the past two days, I have been reading a lot of what everyone has been talking about in-game politically - more on that in a bit.
I want this space, the Weekly Post, to be a running commentary on ePolitics and analysis of current events. It will maintain my bias and be in my voice.
Our National Conversation
My comments this week will be short. I have found that the way people talk to each other in this game is really pretty offensive. I think that there is room to lighten up the way we talk to each other. Words are thrown around that are, quite frankly, highly offensive. As a new player, I am not really comfortable with the kind of conversation we are having nationally - this is not just in our media, but also on the forum.
There are specific words that come to mind as exemplary to this seem corrosion of any civility or humor on this game: I won't be mentioning them here. Let's stop the harsh tones and hate and have some fun working together.
Down with hateful language. Up with conversation! Let's start one in the comments below.
All my very best,
Gerald Sutton

I know how this works because I read - first.
Well said...second.
Good idea. But sadly thats the way the talk will be for all of time haha
Ha! I don't think it's fair to say we can't change it. We just have to start talking to each other in a better way. We just have to start!
Well said 😉
Well said!
Very well written first article! I agree the way some talk to each other is rude even more when it is a old player belittling a new one but only in some rare cases like old vendettas it is kind of funny.

Hear, hear
You don't hear from some of the writers, until they get mad.
Hopefully, we can show you the brighter side of journalism.
HEAR, HEAR! A-FN-MEN...you tell 'em brother.
V&S&S....
Excellent work, looking forward to more of the same.
voted and subbed-- things I see you're getting, and well earned, I might add, from some pretty solid older players.
I suggest you contact not-quite-new player Catsch73 to do an interview about how players treat each other.
Excellent first article, and I agree whole-heartedly. Threats, insults, intimidation - none of these are solid debate, and their use only shows the weakness of the person speaking.
I have seen it in the press, I have seen it in the forums, it's not a good look for new players like me and its not the right way to go about it.
Welcome bro!
Keep it up!
Yeah, that's one of the reasons I stay out of Congress, honestly. People on both sides tend to get a little too caught up in things. We'd all do well to remember that it's possible to disagree and debate in a civil manner, without resorting to personal attacks and various cheap shots. Usually that stuff stays mostly contained to the forums, but lately, there's been a good slug of bitterness and personal mess in the media too.
Anyway, good first article. Sometimes, it takes someone uninvolved to point out the problems, and I think you've done a nice job doing that, though honestly, I find it a bit sad that the problem is so prevalent that it forced its way into the subject matter of your first article.
Nonetheless, I voted and subbed, and I look forward to seeing what else you've got to say.
Good first article.
That would be nice. It might be difficult as some of those people have been doing it for years -- without being rude, they wouldn't know what to say. We can always hope, though. :3
Some only play the game to troll others pretty sad.
I'm all for the civil discussion idea. I've stayed out of so many discussions purely because of the way the comments were going. When I first joined the game and had no idea about much of anything, I was called a traitor, a multi-account and a few other things. I even received one mail where the person described things he would like to do to me. All in my first month in the game.
I avoided political parties and MU's for a long time after that. Perhaps I should have taken your route and written about my experiences. In any case, you have my full support regarding civil communications.
Well written, well stated. Been playing for a few months and after watching the way some treat others, I've thought seriously about checking into hospice. A little civility and willingness to disagree without maiming each other verbally would be a very desirable thing.
