[Stilpo] I need your help!
Stilpo
Hi everyone,
As many of you are aware, my monthly government performance evaluation survey is coming up in a few days (results of last month's survey can be found here).
In addition to rating the performance of government officials, in each survey I also like to include a bonus section that is just for fun. For this month's bonus section I was originally planning on ranking the best CPs of all time, but I have decided to wait with that for a few months because people are notoriously inactive during the summer and I want it to be a fun and meaningful competition.
So now I need to come up with a bonus section for the survey this month. But I am drawing a blank, so I figured I would turn to you. What would you all like to see in the bonus section? Are you interested in public opinion on any specific issue or set of issues? Would you rather rate avatars or nicks or party logos or articles? Or talk about countries/alliances we like and dislike? Something else?
Discuss. And be creative! The bonus section is about having fun.

A ranking of nations/alliances would be nice. It might help us decide what direction Ireland should take in the future.
When I talked to Sweet he seemed pretty opposed to an alliance poll for fear of throwing a wrench in our diplomatic efforts. And he may have a point. Would it still be fun if we just limited it to individual nations?
are we democratic community?
It would be very fun, but when all the nations preferred are pro-CoT... lol It's basically the same. Still, I'm for that if not an alliance poll.
@druid if we decide to actually join an alliance i'd expect to see a referendum yes/no on joining and at some time when we're well informed enough as a community...
No one can stop us from doing our own polls, but I'd have to agree it could really undermine our abilities diplomatically. In the past we've definitely felt the FA repercussions of the regular public displays of how noncommittal we seem to be...
@Stilpo, what if we reversed the idea and got other nations/alliances to do a poll about eIreland and see who likes us and what the world thinks of us instead? That would still be interesting to see in terms of where eIreland might like to settle down.
@Ian - that is a great idea, but it would be a massive undertaking that is probably better suited for its own separate polling effort than a small bonus section in a monthly poll. And we would have to think a lot about how we could pull something like that off on a practical level (how to get the word out without introducing selection bias, etc). I think it would be doable, though. It would just take a lot of work and coordination.
I would prefer the individual nation ranking to be honest.
Conducting an alliance poll could be beneficial.

I appreciate the votes people, but what I really need is discussion!
Well I understand what Sweet said about an alliance poll but I still think it would be a good idea.
Maybe approval ratings of each party. With further details like activity, trustworthiness and corruption.
I'm glad you mentioned that. And I actually thought about doing that as a regular part of the monthly poll. Problem is that not all parties have members that participate in these polls, so we would have missing data for some parties. And we can't really have people rating parties that are not their own because of obvious bias effects. If we had more participants it would be a different story because there are ways to statistically control for the bias, but something like that is just not feasible with a sample this small.
I will have to publish it in an article not just on the University forum but my Presidential election statistics can show the number of times which party has won the Presidency. Kind of a party approval rating but probably the candidate has more to do with the win than the party.

Alright, due to the sensitive nature of our diplomatic position at the moment I'm officially closing the door on this idea or ranking countries or alliances. I understand it would be interesting and I've done it before (and will no doubt do it again), but I'm just not comfortable with the possibility of poll results unintentionally closing any diplomatic doors we may have open to us right now as a neutral country. To be perfectly blunt we need all the help we can get right now, and we all know public opinion about a country can change on a dime anyway if the situation changes. So for the time being at least, we should let our diplomats do what they were appointed to do and find us some friends.
Any other ideas? Or am I going to have to take AppleMan's advice and do chick pics?
you could just ask the Irish public to list their top 3. It was done a while back but you always bring in more participation. By doing that, we don't have to negatively vote any nation that we may need in the future, while also helping us grow closer to those voted for.
If you still don't want to... might as well do chick pics. lol
