[SPQR] Positive Opposition

Day 1,900, 07:17 Published in USA USA by Jefferson Locke

A little while back there was a thread in the fed forum, and the subject was SPQR. My response to the question posed, which was basically, “what does everyone think” was the same I give to everything before I take time to examine it. My response was “It is too early for me to care one way or the other.” That might sound like a cop out, but let me explain. I believe that when evaluating something, you look at the facts and follow where they lead. You see what is there and what the possibilities are before you make a judgement. For example, if you were to ask me “what is your favorite ice cream”, I would say “right now it is reeses peanut butter cup” because I certainly haven’t tried all the flavors yet, so to definitively say that it is my all time favorite would be a premature rush to judgment at best. I will now take a small break so that you can all get the “premature” jokes out of your system.

…...

….............

Are we there yet?

Okay, good.

I’ve noticed that there are three camps in the SPQR debate. One is the SPQR cheerleading squad, that fully accept the message and love the idea. The second is the crowd that dismisses it out of hand simply because they view it as “elitist”, a movement that wants to solidify its power base through Roman role-play. And then there is the third, the “I don’t care yet” crowd. The first two groups will stay the same no matter what is said for the most part, as people have a tendency to pick a side and stay there, evidence be damned. So if you are in one of those two camps, please do not be offended, but it’s the third group that I would like to speak to.

Not having an opinion yet is okay. In this situation, there is no need to join either of the two camps at this time. However, I have moved on from this group, and am now firmly in the cheerleader group, for the following reason: Because SPQR is something that not only is okay with opposition, but encourages it. Activity is the name of the game in regards to building the American empire. You can’t have a strong empire with a population that isn’t that involved. In order for America to be at it’s strongest, we need a group of people that are active in all aspects, that are debating the best course to take with logic and reasoning, instead of the populist rhetoric that has seemingly taken over a portion of our population. SPQR is an organization that wants to see activity rise, and for America to become the superpower that it should be by increasing the activity, thus increasing retention of new players by letting them get involved in the debate.

What does this mean exactly? This means that if you disagree with me, and you are against SPQR, you should tell me why. You should go on #SPQR in IRC and talk to us, and give us your ideas as to why we are bad. Protip: Calling us Flufferist isn’t a debate, it’s pointless name calling that does nothing but solidifies both sides and creates unnecessary butthurt for all involved. We want to hear your ideas, and if you oppose us, that’s not only okay, BUT IT’S GREAT. If you are opposing us with ideas and rational arguments, you are involved. And if you are involved, you will work to get others involved as well, as we will. The newer players will get to see the debate played out. They will get to pick a side after talking to your camp and to ours, and they will benefit from the knowledge that is gained from this exchange of ideas. It will lead America to the greatness that you all deserve. The American Empire is not just a cute catch phrase; it is an ideal, it is a promise that will be delivered to you all. We would love for all of you to join with us and lead America to the promised land. However, we would also love for you to oppose us, because at the end of the day, whether you are with us or against us, you’re doing something that makes this nation strong. You’re being active, and adding to the exchange of ideas. And that my friends is what Nova Roma is about.

Stand with us, for the glory of Nova Roma. Or against us. Either way, America wins.

SPQR IN OUR MIND
SPQR IN OUR HEARTS
NOW AND FOREVER
