Join the new world

21 March 2011, Day 1,217 of the New World. How is it going, Israel? It’s me, your President, again delivering a healthy dose of good, or at least not bad, news. This will be a brief recap of what’s been happening in our corner of the world and an overview of what we can expect in the coming days. Integrity and honor at all times.

The Government

There have been a couple minor shake-ups in the government brought on by the declining activity in the Interior Ministry and eventual resignation of Matan Danziger. The new Interior Ministry will have to act quickly to retain our recent population explosion. For the sake of completeness, here is the list put together for the rest of this term.

The Future of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia was a state born with a broken political system. It seems that removing KSA from the map did provide some relief, but it was ephemeral. Following the reemergence of the country, the old Saudi Community political party, the only political party allowed in that mockery of a “Republik,” is back. The old guard we sought to overthrow and grown right back in place like weeds. Many of the citizens moved on, though, and unfortunately they did not remain a cohesive community in Egypt/United Arab Republic as would be ideal. They left for Romania, Bulgaria, Indonesia, and Iran mostly in addition to Egypt. This means there really is no recognized alternate government for an independent Saudi Arabia. The youngest Saudi citizens will witness their country being carved up for resources, most likely, without anyone really speaking for them.

Israel of course was one of the prominent members of the Middle East intervention. The point of the intervention was not to occupy a large number of Arabian regions forever. To illustrate, I offer one of my favorite geographic-data conveying tools: a map. What you know about maps?





Now Greece is firmly in Arabia. Iran, which landed in the region on a Bulgarian colony, has now been pushed out by a resistance war, and Greece is moving to fill in that gap. It appears that Saudi Arabia will again be wiped out; we can expect its government to do anything they can do resistance a region in time for Presidential or maybe even Congressional elections to maintain their hold on the country. Whether or not keeping the nation off the map during election days will impose democracy remains to be seen. In the meantime, I reiterate my suggestion that the remnants of the community in Saudi Arabia should move to a more secure place like Al Qasim or Lower Egypt, Egypt.

Knesset Elections - Do your part for Israel

It appears that once again I am unable to run for a seat in Knesset. That is unfortunate, because I was looking forward to representing the district of Northern Borders. Since I’m going to just keep falling farther behind people like Sam Krakower, ligtreb, and Mixliarder in the race for more of those pretty Congress medals, I’ll instead do this for Israel.

On election day, 25 March 2011, we anticipate the nation of Israel consisting of eight regions: Al Jawf, Beersheba South District (the capital), Haifa District, Jerusalem District, Jizan, Nazareth North District, Northern Borders, and Tel Aviv Center District. In the eyes of the election, these regions are equal, and it is important to understand the implications of that.

Each region will have up to four members of Knesset. After all eight regions have four members (32 seats accounted for), the other eight seats will be filled by wildcards - the eight highest-voted candidates of the ones not qualified for regular seats. Up to twelve Knesset members will be from Arabian regions, and if fewer than four people each run in Al Jawf, Jizan, and Northern Borders, Knesset will simply be smaller than usual. The month I moved here we had only six candidates run in Haifa for seven seats, and that extra seat was not made up for in another region. What this also means is that the new regions present an enticing opportunity for medal hunters, so keep watching them. I’ve already seen some good candidates declare for Nazareth North District, but don’t forget that we need people for Northern Borders as well.

Let’s take a look at the folks we elected to lead Israel last month. The operations of the Knesset are conducted on the national forums, so a good metric for judging their activity might be their postcount. Keep in mind that this number is increased by posting outside the Knesset boards as well, and many members of Knesset are military officers, soldiers, and members of Cabinet. Still, this should be a good way to judge how involved many of these people are.













Reviving Old Alliances

My administration has revived the old alliance between the United States of America and Israel. This was a wise precaution that will prepare us in the event that the fighting in Arabia and Greece calms down, leaving our citizens without battles to train in. The United States is engaged in a war in the Pacific with Indonesia, and the two now trade attacks between Hawai’i and Papua. Israel is also mobilizing a stronger response if Indonesia successfully launches an attack on California, possibly causing a band of Marines to abandon Los Angeles until an Air Force spotter and a platoon of devildogs locate the enemy command-and-control hub and eliminate that asset, denying the enemy their close air support capabilities.



We’re also watching for the United States to reach “the gates of Jakarta.”

I hope I’m not showing my age too much with that last reference.

Rumors and Changes

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, but the one most adaptive to change.” Leonard Nimoy of Star Trek fame famously quoted that in Civilization IV when one discovered biology. eRepublik, more now than a year ago, is about unannounced, illogical, and poorly-communicated change. Sort of like Obama, at least on the “poorly-communicated” and “poorly-executed” points.

Israel recently came into possession of what we call an exclave. Scroll up if you need to see the map again. Notice that Israel is mostly a straight line stretching from Northern Borders to Nazareth North District and Haifa District with the exception of Jizan. The rumor is that regions such as this will not provide their resource benefit to the country unless there is a land connection to the capital.

(For my American readers, Jizan is like Alaska if its border with Washington State was removed.)

As the change has not happened yet, we do not know entirely what the future will hold. It is, of course, entirely fair that this rumor should be announced one day after Israel came into possession of its first exclave while countries such as Bulgaria, Pakistan, United States, Serbia, Poland, France, and New Zealand have enjoyed them for months. Then the possibility of building a bridge this new change would demand might just interfere with the ability of Greece, United Arab Emirates, and Iran to do the same thing.

Whatever the future holds, we must adapt.

העתיד של ערב הסעודית

ערב הסעודית הייתה מדינה שנולדה עם מערכת פוליטית שבורה. נראה שהורדת הממלכה של ערב הסעודית מהמפה סיפקה קצת הקלה, אבל זה היה בר חלוף. ביחד עם הופעתה של המדינה, המפלגה הישנה “החברה הסעודית”, המפלגה היחידה במקום לעג הזה שנקרא “רפובליקה”, חזרה. המשמר הזקן שחשבנו שהדחנו גדל וחזר למקומו כמו עשבי שדה. רבים מהאזרחים עברו, אם כי, ולמרבה הצער לא נשארו קהילה מלוכדת במצרים/איחוד האמירויות הערביות, כפי שיהיה אידיאלי לחשוב. הם עזבו לרומניה, בולגריה, אינדונזיה, ואיראן בעיקר כתוספת למצרים. זה אומר שאין באמת ממשלה מאורגנת ואלטרנטיבית לערב סעודית עצמאית. האזרחים הסעודים הצעירים ביותר יחזו בארצם נכבשת כדי להשיג משאבים, קרוב לוודא, בלי אף אחד שידבר אליהם.

לכל איזור יהיו 4 חברי כנסת, אחרי שלכל אחד משמונה האיזורים יש 4 חברי כנסת - 32 חברי כנסת בסה”כ, השאר יהיו קלפים פרועים - השמונה שהיו להם הכי הרבה קולות מתוך אלו שלא נבחרו. 12 חברי כנסת יהיו מאיזורים ערביים, ופחות מ-4 אנשים רצים מכל אחד מאיזורים אלו. הכנסת פשוט תיהיה קטנה מבדרך כלל. בחודש שעברתי לכאן היו לנו רק 6 מתמודדים בחיפה על 7 מקומות, והמקום הנוסף לא עבר לאיזור אחר. זה גם אומר שהאזורים החדשים יהיו מקומות לרודפי מדליות, אז תתכוננו להם. כבר ראיתי כמה אנשים טובים שרצים לנצרת, אבל אל תשכחו שאנחנו צריכים אנשים גם מהגבולות הצפוניים.
