[HD] A new newspaper arises

Day 2,753, 12:24 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by Kordak

In a few days we will have a new president installed and my work will be over. Well that is not quite sure actually, because if NoTie wins the elections, I will be the vice-president. He agrees with my policy on many points and he is willing to continue on some major parts, with his own style. Nevertheless I was looking for something new, since I have grown a bit tired of politics. So I decided to start with a new newspaper. I want to publish several different articles each week and I wanted to start with a column. Don’t worry I will still write an official end of the term article tomorrow, this is just something personal from me as citizen that I wanted to share with you all.

Most of the time I am actually someone that prefers to observe instead of being in the spotlights. I really do like to work for people and help them. In my three terms as president I have experienced a lot of challenges that I had to face. In my first term there was Germany that was attacking us on orders of Poland, so they would be able to easily take our regions. (Yes I know it sounds like a curse) Not so long after my first term in the Netherlands I felt like I needed something else. A lot of people blamed me for all kind of things and there was an problem with a group of mercenaries claiming money I never assigned to them. I decided to pay as much as money as possible, since I felt responsible for the situation and I left the country, to join the Irish community.

The Irish community was on so many aspects different than the Dutch. First of all there is no forum that is really used by the players, there were only some people that were on IRC. Most of the game was played in-game and that was actually not as bad as it sounds like. I enjoyed my time in Ireland and did my best to work hard for the country. Only 3 months after my arrival I ran for presidency and I got elected. This was a great month and it was really nice to be the president of Ireland. As lucky as I always am, Moldova decided to airstrike Ireland during my term. They did set some huge CO’s and even with the help of our allies from Aurora we were not able to stop them. I decided to do the most controversial thing of my whole term: asking help from the UK. Some people might think, why is that such a problem, but believe me the UK and Ireland did not always have a good relationship. Luckily for us the UK was actually willing to help and together we managed to expel the invaders from our lands. In the beginning there were a lot citizens on both sides against helping Ireland in the war. We were still not friends, but we became accepted neighbours. In the next few months this relationship transferred into a real friendship where the UK and Ireland helped each other out several times.

In this time I also got involved into the Aurora HQ and I was chosen to become the head of Public Relations. I did a lot of work for the alliance and it made me realize that an alliance could be very important for a country. I made a lot of friends in the world, I still have contact with most of them.

When I ran for presidency in the Netherlands I knew that there was a risk of war again. Especially with the info we gathered from Germany that they have been waiting to attack us for Northern Netherlands for months. For this situation I decided it was best to try to revive the NSPP as a pact first and maybe even as an alliance later. Also I appointed special ambassadors in the countries that we have borders with or those that were close to us. The UK and Ireland (which wasn’t part of the original NSPP) were interested in the revival, but the UK was holding back, waiting for an response of Germany.

Unfortunately bringing the NSPP back to life was not the highest point on their agenda since they wanted to attack us for our bonus. The war began and we had to gather support for our war. The problem was that some countries wanted to help us, but they did not really want to fight against Germany. It was time to find some help in other directions so I decided to approach some of the bigger countries. Unfortunately none of them was willing to sign a MPP with us, so that made the situation more difficult. I decided that it was time to step out of our trusted circle of contacts to see if it was possible to find help somewhere else.

Help came from an unexpected direction, Australia contacted us that they were going to AS Denmark to fight against Germany and open another front. They had the support of Nebula and Orion, but also asked us to sign a MPP with them to maximize the chance of success. If another country does so much to help yours it is not strange at all to sign a MPP with them if they ask it. I know that it caused some discussions, but sometimes you have to take the decisions that are best. It is a pity that Australia’s AS did not succeed, so they were not able to help us. However in my opinion this AS was also symbolic. It showed us that there are many more countries in the world like us that are willing to help each other. Countries that are still loyal to their allies and ideals and willing to fight for the underdog. I think that we own a big thanks to Australia and their allies for this brave attempt to help us. I am not saying that we should jump into an alliance in a rush, but I hope that we will at least consider joining one. Friends are important and even when some are new to you, they can become great friends.

I hope you enjoyed reading my first column in my new newspaper and I hope that I will be able to write many more of them. I can understand that not everyone agrees on all points, so feel free to discuss in the comment section below.
