Dear Fellow Citizens of eUSA,

The Premise

From the beginning of my time in this game I have recognized my kinship with all of you. I am not one bit better than the least among us. And if there is any honor at all in clicking these buttons, the same honor is mine. We are kindred, you and I, and I want to speak to you as my brothers and sisters.

I listen to all that gets said throughout the various courts of public opinion - as much as I am able. I have even recently begun to idle on IRC more often (though that courtroom seems far more adjourned these days than in yesterdays.) And what I hear too often is the foul wind of cynicism - a mental cancer I surely suffer myself - but one that particularly disinfects our game from the intrusion of… new players. Forsooth.

“This game sucks… don’t ever buy gold… go play Zinga… blah, blah, blah…”


But just as every new player is a potential gift to our community, I regard every keystroke, every mouse-over, every shouted link as a sacred moment.



My Desire

Your activity is your sacrifice. Your every click a gift offered to the closest thing we have in this game to a “god”; our community. (Yes, I am aware of the Immanent and Incarnate One, Plato. He’s not so much god in this game as devil, I suppose*.) And I have known transcendent joy in many ecstatic gaming moments as our community has blessed me - veritably rewarded me with bliss in return for the sacrifices I’d given.

My friends, the time has come for me to sacrifice my keystrokes, my clicks, and my most sacred moments to eUSA.

I want to be your President.





My Story

I am thinking this evening of my earliest days in eRepublik. I remember reading articles about international politics, domestic policies, Party espionage (these were the days of SEES), and I was confused.

The “voice” of each author treated his/her subject matter as if it were somehow real! These newspaper articles in this browser game were coming off as if a genuine world war was afoot… as if the welfare of an actual society of living beings was at stake… as if actual crimes were being committed by actual citizens and that these crimes cried out for moral justice in a palpable way.

I remember, at the dawn of my eRepublik career, that first sense of the vastness of this organic social garden. My aforementioned confusion turned to incredulity as I learned more and more about a game which seemed to have no boundaries. This was a game which transcended gaming! eRepublik was like a virtual cathedral of make-believe! I was entranced. This game is (yet) alive with great promise, and I am alive in it.

And thus was born a desire to embrace this system, and to contribute what I could.

I will not have fulfilled that desire until I have also given at least a month of my game to serve as your President.





Our Challenge

In this country -- the most favored beneath the bending skies (depending on whether you turn “ambient on” or “off”) -- I see the potential for a greater day**. It is hard to gauge how many actual new players join our community seeking the kind of fun I have enjoyed, but I do know that we will do our best job of inspiring them when we play our game at a high level.





My Promise

As your President, I will devote my personal sacrifice to crafting an environment in eUSA that is worthy of the vision put into my mind’s eye during the earliest days of my career. That is what I feel best suited to offer.

And I will also be serving with a Cabinet who will work equally hard at securing our successes in every facet of our life together. We’ve enjoyed much success these past 6 months, so I have an eye towards continuity. In the coming days, you will be able to read who and why and what and how.



So gird up your loins, America. Your brother, your friend, your fellow Citizen Gnilraps is running for President. And I will want every one of you... I hope to inspire every one of you to play this game like you mean it.
