[CPF] Party Presidency (First Third) Report

Day 2,257, 19:52 Published in Canada Spain by JonathonEdwards

My First 10 days in Office.

Well, the days leading up to my election as Party President provided a bit of excitement. I was hoping for a contest between committed members of the party, and there it was shaping up that way, with both the incumbent, Lelouch VI Britannia, as well as Primer360 both having stated their intent to run.

However, Rylde too, had visions of the CPF’s crown jewels. He wrote media articles declaring his attempt to take the party offering to pay 25 tanks to each who voted for him. With heartfelt thanks from me, and gratitude from the party, but Lelouch and Primer agreed it would be best if they dropped out, so that we wouldn’t split the vote and allow Rylde to win the day.

In the end, however, the anticipating leading up to the 15th gave away to a sigh of relief on election day, as Rylde had announced the previous day he would be withdrawing from the contest. His stated reason was that the tanks would be of better use in arming our population for our invasion of the British Isles. I rode to an acclaimed victory, receiving about 90% of the vote.

I hope next election, can be a real, internal contest between Canadian Progressive Front members.

Armed Conflict with Europe

As a result of our foray into the United Kingdom (or was merely a convenient excuse?), we became the subject of 3 Natural Enemy (NE) declarations. The United Kingdom, Poland and Spain all turned their focus onto us. With such heavy weights – and this was not unexpected – the Canadian government realized it would just be a short period of time until we are wiped from the map. However, with the new Determination Bonus introduced into the game, it won’t be an 8 month long occupation as we experienced for most of 2013. Some are suggesting in as little as 3 – 4 months we will again overcome our occupiers. And if our conquerors do not set their hearts on keeping us wiped, our freedom could come much sooner.

Tomorrow’s Congress Elections Experiment with the Futile.

In all likelihood, we will be wiped before 06:00 (9 am EST) on the 26th. But if by some quirk we still have at least one region at that point in time, it seems that we will be entitled to a full 40 members of Congress. We will only fulfill that full 40 if each party has enough candidates who declared in the region(s) we have on the 26th at 0:600 eRep time, to fulfill their party’s elected quota. This is how I understand http://wiki.erepublik.com/index.php/Congress_elections

For example, if Party A gets 40% of the vote, they are entitled to 40% of the congress seats – 16 seats. However, if their candidates made their declarations in a variety of regions we no longer own, they will not get elected. Only candidates who made their declarations in regions we own on the 26th at 06:00 will get a Congress Medal and be considered elected. So it is entirely possible that the voters give Party A the right to 16 seats, but they could be limited to 7 seats because only 7 candidates from Party A made their candidacy declarations in the regions(s) we own on the 26th at 06:00.

Again, it does seem we will be wiped, but on the off chance we are not, it is something to look forward to. So don’t forget to vote – make sure you do. Just in case.

Congress Report.

The last 10 days in Congress have proven fairly quiet. Our President, I-Bleed-Blue-93 faced an impeachment. The Remastered God proposed and argued for this, and his arguments seemed to find a home in many peoples’ hearts, even if reluctantly. The majority agreed he should have left (I voted for his impeachment, reluctantly), but all the brouhaha that usually accompanies an impeachment was pretty much absent. The main reason (at least it was for me) is not that he is a bad President, but that he was an absent President. At least the runner up, TemujinBC would have been a bit more active. But in the end, the vote was 20 in favour of impeachment, and 14 against, which failed to meet the 2/3’s majority requirement to remove him. He has since promised a much more active last 10 days in office.

The only other notable event was the reduction in taxes that Congress pushed through, almost unanimously, with every-party-support. With a wipe imminent, and with occupying powers able to take large chunks of their conquered countries’ tax revenues, the CPF pushed forward legislation to reduce our taxes as low as we as possibly could – 1 %. While this will reduce the taxes we can collect, it will also reduce what Spain and Poland can take from us, leaving more of it in the hands of you, our citizens.

Fractious Politics

Muglack introduced his Party Presidency candidacy for the MDP with an article about the way things would change. No longer would the MDP support or encourage policies with hurt eCanada. There would be more cooperation between parties. I have reached out to Muglack with hopes of being able to work closer to him, and I’m still waiting to see how we can put that into practice. Putting eCanada above partisan politics is important to me – not that there is no room for partisan politics, but it has to play a lesser role than it has in our recent history. We can play the party vs party game, and play it well – with sarcasm, trolling, etc., just so long as eCanada doesn’t get hurt by it. Too often, that’s not been the case.

In this light, I was impressed by Rylde’s decision to pull out of his attempted coup of the Canadian Progressive Front – not because Rylde suddenly had a change of heart, but because he recognized that his efforts and resources would be better suited to helping eCanada in our invasion efforts in the UK. Unfortunately, I don't believe he understands his efforts at taking over the CPF would be deterimental to eCanada. We need a thriving political sphere to keep our politics alive. To simply have 5 parties which all mirror each other in attitude, outlook, and game play (role vs. mechanics) will only serve to deaden our political sphere.

The last 10 days has seen Rylde, along with Bryan Alexander and Klop123, put in extraordinary efforts at co-ordinating our war efforts, handing out supplies, and doing their best to get war-related information to the masses.

However, I do fully expect Rylde to return to partisan politics when eCanada doesn’t need his focus and generous resources.
