[CP] The end of the term / Het einde van de term

Dear Citizens of the Netherlands,

This will be the last article I post as your President, before I start packing my stuff I still owe you an explanation on some things;

The treaty with Poland

The Government of the Netherlands and the Government of Poland had a few meetings in the past term in which we discussed a possible treaty regarding our regions, the debate can be found on the forum. If it was up to me it would have been signed by now but apparently the Polish congress doesn’t think M. the Ruyter is trustworthy and they decided to wait with voting until after the Presidential elections, I hope he will be able to prove them otherwise. The positive thing in this is that it will give us the possibility to rephrase some unclear things in the treaty and vote about it again.

Ask your President

I am not sure anymore who sent it in but someone asked what is going to happen with our regions in Canada, I have been putting it off as I could have a better answer after the treaty was denied or accepted. If the treaty is going to get accepted I’d say that we should return our Canadian regions to Canada because they would only become a burden. If the treaty isn’t going to be accepted we should hold on to the Canadian regions which might get harder and more expensive over time with the rising determination bonus and a growing amount of hostile Canadians (they exist!)

He also asked about what I was going to do about communes that aren’t able to properly function at this moment, personally I think the whole concept of the communes has to be re-analyzed because of game changes, personally I am not an economical genius and unfortunately my MoF was rather busy this month so I am sorry that I can’t present you any research on this subject.

Summary of this term

- The war with Canada was finished
- All the Dutch National Organizations were recovered
- DIAS was developed and introduced
- eRepublik introduced occupation tax
- eRepublik introduced determination bonus
- We liberated all our core regions
- We finally got full congress again
- Crowdfunded MPP with Japan
- M. de Ruyter was granted a well deserved Ridder Grootkruis
- Two joined strikes with Belgium
- Established diplomatic communication with Poland
- Investment in to the Emergency Fund with the remaining government budget

Personal disappointments

I pity the fact that my government wasn´t as active in the second half as it was in the first half of the term, this had several reasons I understood from Kordak for example that he emptied an aquarium over his computer and apparently Weekstrom had to be in court a lot … I wonder if he was wearing a wig and a toga?

I hoped that there would be nice stories to read in the weekly update but it felt like a part of the ministers saw it as homework rather than a possibility to show the citizens their accomplishments

The army hasn’t reformed / been brought back to life the way I wanted yet, I might still be able to accomplish that if I will be able to make my way into a government.

I was disturbed by finding out how deep the mutual hate between some (groups) citizens is rooted, there are so many people that are so tired of this kind of behavior. Here, pick an song;

My gratitude goes out to

Our government counterparts in Canada who were fun to talk to and made us feel welcome!

My Belgian colleague and the Belgian soldiers who helped making the joined strikes happen which I really enjoyed!

Mister (formerly known as) Swat who gifted me 1000 weapons which were distributed in the MoD supplies, the remaining amount of my weapons I will gift to Davebrinkman

President Prophet who helped establishing diplomacy between Poland and the Netherlands

A certain cat from the US who might be slightly disturbed at the moment because of some guy!

My awesome team of ministers, secretaries and (non-government) advisors which I was relaying upon and with who I have shared quite some laughs!

My friends, here in the Netherlands and abroad for their support (sorry, no names, the article is already longer then I intended 😛 ) and the way they are keeping me in the game (wait … I am not grateful for that!)

Last but not least, all of the Dutch citizens who make our country worth fighting for!

Thoughts on the Future

I would like to see the treaty being signed next term, I truly believe it is much better for the country then the alternative.

I hope the next administration will keep up good relations with Belgium, I believe the Netherlands and Belgium are rather natural friends than natural enemies.

It was an honor being your president and I will hope to see you all around within the community!

A salute to you o7
Maarten
