The Libertas Legacy

Day 2,374, 10:41 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by NoTie112

Dear readers,

It surprised us at Libertas to see a ferocious media campaign started by the new party, the Dutch Freedom Movement, almost exclusively aimed against Libertas. I felt the need to elaborate on several things being shouted in the media about us.

Initially I was kind of sympathetic to the cause of the Dutch Freedom Movement, despite their Party President having left Libertas in a public disagreement and their party being built on a previous party without consulting the latter. But when the party started to publish their program, in majority critical and biased towards Libertas, I too became suspicious of their motives. It seems like the balance in our politics have changed and that Libertas is now on the other side of the gun. Political opposition, however, is essential to the fun of this game. Being opposed, however, for the mere sake of being opposition is not.

First of all, I think it's strange to directly relate the government policies of the previous month to Libertas exclusively. Yes, we've been a major faction of the current governments, but in no way do we dictate how things run. Libertas has always been a odd one in the current established parties: Being the youngest party without a real historic party core, we've been forced to be continuously politically active. Which in turn has made us an unique and fluid party with a refreshing mindset and ideas, with us pushing proposals like training facilities loans, subsidies, free food, gold rewards and events.

Therefore it's kind of uninformed to try to put Libertas in a corner of the establishment, as our mindset and ideas will cause us to be opposition, even when being aligned to forces in power. We've cooperated with all parties and both political ''sides'' (GPN/VVN vs. DemNL/I&W), and within our party there's no strict discipline either: unless really necessary, party members can freely evolve themselves in the positions we at Libertas offer, with a prime example being former Libertas member Military of San Marino, Party President of the Dutch Freedom Movement.

As for the criticism on my presidential term, it waters down again on the Norway thing. Everything else was running excellent and the war against Norway was a big factor in that success, but apparently controversial enough to be polluted in such an order than both attacking and defending it has become stupid by this moment. Still I will embark upon it, as to show with facts that it was the best opportunity we've gotten in years, that we've shown our guts for the first time in years.

My government acted on behave of the eNetherlands, not of Norway, or individuals aligned towards Norway (as most of the ''ally'' believes come from -personal- relations between Norwegian citizens like Jasper and Jasper and (mostly) the GPN clique in the eNetherlands). We had no official relations or contacts with Norway for months already (which is a lifetime in the eRepublik universe). Yes, we were closer to Norway in a faraway past, when we tried to align with their alliance, Asgard. But we've been refused several times and in the meantime the geopolitical worlds has changed radically: simply put, the Asgard/Norway chapter was long over and is being sentimentally abused by the persons both close to Norwegian citizens and against the current forces in power in the eNetherlands to make a point, to undermine the eDutch state as a whole because of petty political disagreements. The eNetherlands has decided to move on and align itself with Aurora/Sirius - and aligning doesn't start when joining the alliance, but is a long journey - which puts Asgard in our enemies list.

To go to war with Norway, with a genuine casus belli, was the best thing that could happen to the eNetherlands in the current circumstances. Why?

- It has improved our status with Sirius and Aurora nations, which is helpful in our attempts to official join their alliances, even though we've established ourselves de facto already as their allies. We've been prioritized by the United States, United Kingdom & Poland several times. Note that we haven't been prioritized by foreign countries for years up to that point. Immaterial rewards like these are invaluable and paramount to the future of our country, but easily and conveniently being overlooked.
- We had the opportunity to hold on to Southern Norway. For the first time ever the eNetherlands expanded outside her original borders. Unfortunately, we have shown to be not capable to hold onto foreign lands: but it is showing of the success of this war that we were ''allowed'' to legitimately have foreign lands. The adventures in Scandinavia by us, the United Kingdom and Poland also makes it more viable for us to receive Western and Southern Netherlands back in the future, provided we continue this course.
- Most of all: activity and fun for own citizens. Don't believe when people say it damaged us as a country, that people massively ran away, that our population will decimate because of the current policies: It is simply not true. Our population went down, only because we had a spike roughly a month ago of former citizens returning to eRepublik due to a mail sent out: It was unlikely to expect a lot to stay, if they had quit the game earlier. Let me provide the following data, which shows exactly that during the war we've been more active than ever and makes the point of the eNetherlands en masse against it run moot: click

To conclude: we've maximized and shown our capabilities, even though we're a small country. Libertas will not participate in the self victimizing and underestimating our country: We actually do believe in the eNetherlands and her citizens!
