Himachal Pradesh is a state in Northern India.The region borders China(Tibet).
Himachal Pradesh is spread across valleys, and 90% of the population lives in villages and towns.

The region was under England.The state was part of Punjab.On 18 December 1970, the State of Himachal Pradesh Act was passed by Parliament and the new state came into being on 25 January 1971.

Himachal is in the western Himalayas,it is a mountainous state.Reo Purgyil is the highest mountain peak in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
Forest areas constitute 66.52% of the area of Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh has a total population of 6,856,509.
Hinduism is the main religion in Himachal Pradesh,more than 95% of the total population belongs to the Hindu faith.
Other religions that form a small percentage are Buddhism and Sikhism.
Hindi is the official language.Most of the population speaks Pahari in everyday conversation.

The capital is Shimla and it is the largest city.OTher cities are Dharamsala,Shimla,Reckong Peo and Chamba.
