Canadian Immigration Council
Prinz von Panzer
Meine damen und herren, I write to you today in the name of the newly founded Canadian Immigration Council, addressing the Canadian Congress especially, but also to inform the eCan citizens.
After discussions in the previous Congress, not spared by the usual political side-taking, it was decided that an Immigration Council should be founded. An election was set up and Congress voted for 4 names, after each candidate made his or her case : I-Bleed-Blue-93, MaryChan, Nogin_the_nog, yourself truly, and a president appointee, namely Muglack, whose mandate depends on the president.
Earlier today a brief election was set up for the position of Chairperson, the winner being IBB, former president and SG of Leto.
Our task will be to look into each applicant who requests eCanadian citizenship in order to determine if he/she has damaging intentions toward our society or not. The result of our inquiry will be posted in the Immigration Council section of the Canadian forum.
! It is important to keep in mind that a citizenship should not be given out until we approve the applicant. Such an act by a congressman will result in restrictions for the said person, from a forum ban to keeping him or her from future a position in congress. !
I will be taking it upon myself to inform voters and party leaders of such acts, a.k.a. "public shaming".

It took you guys this long, huh? Well... I'm glad your government finally sobered up.
All zero applicants thank you. I hope you guys can handle the job load.
We're swamped.
Sir, you would make government workers everywhere proud with that response. o7
@ Drui😛 lol!
I wanted to join... but probably too late now :3
Because we totally needed an immigration council. Because just look at all these foreigners PTOing us...
But if we wait until we need it, it's too late.
It was your party that proposed the bloody useless thing.
So then it looks like we have a nice opportunity to get all three party's to shut this useless piece of crap down.
LMAO, no it was me that proposed the bloody useless thing, thank you very much. No party had anything to do with it.
~hyuu~
makework protect
Too late, I already got in.
*starts hanging up green flags*
not unnoticed...lol
CPF: "We need an Immigration Policy and a council to stop foreign invaders and protect this Country from PTO!!!"
MDP: "Actually I think we'll be ok if we just use common sense when accepting people."
CPF: "No, we NEED an Immigration Council, and we'll use our numbers to push it through Congress whether you like it or not!"
*Time comes to make the Council and do "work" to implement the new policy that was pushed through*
CPF: *crickets*
MDP: ALL FIVE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL
The more things change.......
Just as I predicted all along: one party has gained unilateral control over an aspect of eCan government. Except I never thought it would be us.
HUZZAH!
CPF:
5 votes yes
2 votes no
MDP:
1 vote yes
2 votes no
Your political attack is highly suspect, Mugs and your post is a clear representation of what I was talking about in Congress. "Most nonpartisan in this Congress" my ass.
Again you attack me for a statement I make from a place of ignorance since you weren't in Congress when the council was proposed and passed.
Immigration reform was advocated for and forced through Congress by thedillpickle, DMV and JonathonEdwards --- Three members of the CPF.
The MDP as a whole has long been against immigration policy, the CPF however has been in favor of it.
Do individuals within the parties have views differing from those of the banner under which they were elected to Congress? Absolutely, and that's reflected in the votes, but the stance of either party is well established.
The fact of the matter remains that once the Council was created and the call went out for players to do the job that Congress thought was necessary based on policy proposed and primarily supported by the CPF (based on your own stats) the only party who's members stepped up was the party that idealistically should have been against it.
What this shows us is that even when Congress passes laws or legislation that flies in the face of what the MDP believes it's members will still do what is required, while the CPF will spend all day blowing hot air but disappear quickly when the time comes to actually do the work.
Why not just vote to remove it? One hand you say its useless, the other hand you parade around saying look what we can do. So are you cheering that you are doing something useless, or do you believe it holds value now after being against it?
The CPF does not hold a majority, and since your comments seem to try and say we were the only party involved, which you know is not true, but why would you say anything bad about the IW or PFC right? A simple vote should have it removed if you wanted to try.
I have volumes I could write on the problems with those parties, but that's not at issue.
I think the Council is a giant waste of time. The fact that there were 4 CS approvals today without any not from the IC proves that.
But just because I think it's dumb doesn't mean I won't do what's required to make it work. Congress passed it, so I'll do what I can to keep it functional until Congress gets rid of it.
It shouldn't be there, yet you will support it? Willing to work a flawed system just to say you're working, is beneficial? Or would staying true to your initial stance and have it removed be better?
to continue on in Auk's analysis of the vote, UF vote 2 in favour, 0 against; and the PFC vote 1 in favour, 0 against.
So another way to spin it, if one were so inclined, is to say that CPF and MDP had equal representation against the legislation; and that UF and PFC had unanimous support of it.
MDP just dominate everything, even stuff we think we don't need.
BS I have never supported this idea, ever, but let's give it month now and see if we get an applicant.
I didn't say you did. My point was that the whole thing was a CPF led initiative, which if you look at who proposed it and who was most vocal in it's support, and yet at the end of the day the ENTIRE Council is MDP.
So? I voted for them myself. Very good people I have complete faith in. Now we just need an applicant for them to vet. It will be very exciting.
Look ma, I'm famous! 😃
Well, as current legislation works, there's no incentive or repercussions for congress members who circumvent the council. I proposed a bill that would do that and more, just to give the council more weight. However, everyone was so hung up on this being a useless system, that the bill was buried in bs.
As it currently stands, the council is useless as congress can ignore it without fear of consequence. No one can be legally barred from congress with the current legislation.
In actuality though, 9/10ths of the new world have an immigration system. My bill was based off of the eNL and eUSA systems. It's better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it. That was the base argument for creating our own, and the reason why it was accepted. Now the original legislation needs a lot of work to make it functioning. Someone should dig out my bill from ODC Archives, make necessary modifications, and re present it to congress. That's the only way this council will work. Otherwise, the council will fail.
9/10ths have an immigration system? Even if that is true it does not mean they are effective...
Doesn't mean they aren't.
well the one I was a part of, Irish, was not effective at all.
I guess maybe the Chinese and USA used to have a decent one.
Eh, the Irish one is effective for most ones. It's just there is a severe political disagreement over whether or not certain rogue elements should be allowed in and out of the country without going via the council.
yes Brian, in which case there was no effective 'punishment' to hand out to the offenders.
Try to get into the US without knowing someone. 😃
I know a guy who knows a guy 😃
The eUK had an immigration process until it was abolished by Serbians. Need I say more? )))
Denk je niet dat Nederland zou moeten zijn aan die tafel ook? lol
If a "bad" person wants an eCanada citizen, why wouldn't they simply create a citizen in eCanada? Wouldn't that be the ultimate way to bypass your immigration council? We are assuming that these avatars are being denied citizenship based on their propensity to do bad things, are we not? Otherwise, what is the purpose? I don't imagine for a second that a country as diverse as Canada would ever stand for denying citizenship based on one's current citizenship or nationality. We're not racists, are we? Of course not.
Game mechanics do not require any "path to citizenship". heck, its harder to become a member of an MU than it is to become a citizen. Game mechanics allow a single congressman to approve citizenship. That is where it ends. Disallowing an avatar citizenship is basically telling that player that we consider them to be a threat and invite them to spawn another account using his tor browser and continue, in secrecy, on his or her merry way.
And, ultimately, what is the real "risk" this council is trying to prevent? Owning a company? Participating in an MU? Having a newspaper? Of course not! The only thing you can possibly care about is an avatars ability to participate in the political system. I suppose that if you really hate a particular race or nationality, this might be your motivation but again, I don't think we would ever consider implementing policy based on our desire to prevent a particular race or nationality from becoming part of the bits of data that comprise our pretend country. I'll assume that isn't the case and that this all really boils down to keeping certain avatars from having access to our political party based on a fear that they might maybe figure out a way to obtain office and then.. What exactly? Take over the world? Enslave us all? Make us speak French? Perish the thought!
Effectiveness does not imply value. While effective, an atomic bomb is not an efficient way to control your rodent problem.
Well that escalated quickly to races and stuff that no one brought up.
Then you correctly understand my comment. Since we are not driven by an avatar's implied race or nationality, there is really little reason to debate a citizenship request or to admonish an elected congressperson for voting their conscience to allow that avatar citizenship.
We need not be afraid of avatars nor should elected congresspeople or their party presidents fear retribution for doing their elected jobs.
So what you're saying is let's accept everyone who applies.
Yes. Exactly. This isn't reality, you know. There's nothing that an avatar can do that will cause any permanent damage. And remember, Plato gave us these game mechanics for a reason. Who are we to say that we're smarter than Plato?
Have we not had so many examples of PTOers stealing funds from another country, deciding its policy and so on ? Why complicate our lives ?
I like debates but I cannot agree with this idea. We cannot let everyone in. Not everyone will fight for us if they have citizenship. Thats now what it means.
Congress is discussing atm getting rid of the Immigration Law. As it is, it's totally useless. I guess its easier to get rid of it than better it.
"Give it one more month" One more month of congressmen bypassing it ? Nothing will change. Truth of the matter is it's our time we'd be wasting and you'd only be required to have some patience. But since all kinds of people can waltz into Congress I don't expect anything anymore.
Yay now we can spin our wheels and go nowhere too, just like a RL congress.
