[Wild Owl] Farewell Address

Day 2,298, 11:33 Published in USA Poland by Wild Owl

I have been preparing to write this article for some time, but I decided to take a little more time to ponder it before I took to finally getting it all down. As you may have noticed, my two term presidency ended earlier today and I have returned to the role of a diplomat rather than a head of state. I have often mused about what I would like in my farewell address, and am honestly quite pleased with how the past two months have gone, and am rather excited about the future of our great Country.

The past two months saw us finally move on from our stance of neutrality to join an alliance, alongside Croatia, Turkey, Poland, the United Kingdom, Spain and later Brazil namely Sirius. After a long time, we have been able to bridge the gap in damage and finally managed to join an alliance which has a fair shot at world domination in the future. Of course, sacrifices will still have to be made. Our alliance will need to respect us and understand that the USA has its own needs that need to be satisfied for it to be a happy partner. Similarly, the USA will need to think about its new friends instead of unilaterally making decisions for itself, and take into consideration the effect of our decisions towards our friends.

While my terms were filled with a large amount of military endeavours, which saw us move into Russia, Portugal, Japan, Mexico, France, and hold Irish regions, I will perhaps be most remembered for initiating a war against Canada. A lot of reasons seem to have been offered by both sides, most of them based on fiction, as to why we warred them. At the end of the day, having a Serb friend on our northern borders is something that was not acceptable to myself and my Cabinet. No Canadian official, reached out to myself or to my MoFAs, to inquire about joining Sirius, or to have a scenario in which the USA and Canada ended up on the same side. It is our duty as the strongest country in North America to ensure that our part of the world map stays pro-Sirius, and if that involves an occupied pro-Asteria Canada, I have come to the conclusion that it is the best outcome for all of us.

I believe in the Manifest Destiny. I took over a country that was a mid-tier nation, ranked 14th in damage with 60/60 bonuses and left it at 100/80 bonuses, around a day away from regaining the 100/100 which we briefly held during my term. I believe that we are a great country, and we have the people, the community and the damage needed to be a top tier nation again. The USA may not be the power that it was around two years ago, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try to regain our lost stature. We have been blessed with an extraordinary location on the map, and it is about time that we started using it to benefit our country, instead of musing about brotherhoods that are only invoked by weaker countries to help themselves when they’re in a tough spot.

eRepublik is not, and will not be the game that it was a few years ago, or heck, even a year ago. It changes constantly, mirroring the people in it. I hope that my successors continue my practical approach to a strong United States of America and receive the extraordinary support that I received from all of you during my tenure as Country President.

Thank you,

Wild Owl
