Today’s WHPR
1. Op-E😛 A Reflection on the Past 2 Months

A Reflection on Two Months as Secretary of Media
Tom Cauchon, Secretary of Media

Over the past two months, I have had the pleasure of serving as the Secretary of Media under Trekker for two term cycles. I replaced Smee was here after Trekker’s first term in office. Media has always been my favorite part of Erepublik; it has allowed us to grow as a community and share our daily thoughts and ideas.

Words and language have always played an important aspect in my life. Ever since kindergarten I was told that I was an excellent writer. As I grew older, my ideas changed and developed and I became an excellent thesis writer, and I grew to write kick ass 5 paragraph essays that teachers in high school eat up like morning cereal.

Ultimately, my first month as Secretary of Media started out strong, I was excited and ready to tackle my first national job, but patient and nervous about some of my writing. I think this reluctance to write about anything controversial inhibited me. I didn’t write to my full potential.

As the first month of my job winded down, I was unsure of whether Trekker would ask me to stay on as his Secretary for the next month. He asked me to, and I agreed. My media had been waning, but I was excited to pick up another month on the resume. I began writing again with passion.

I’ll admit, the end of my term as Secretary of Media has seen little success. I was dropped an extremely difficult RL week and I had no one to turn to. This is mostly my fault. I did not spend the time to assemble a team. I had a couple people that could have written more for me, and I did not reach out to them.

Sometimes, over the past two months I have let my pride get in the way. TylerBubblar was the only one I trusted to write for WHPR other than myself. The two of us ran the whole operation. When Tyler decided to make a run for CP, and I two-clicked for a week, we had nothing to show for our media department. I failed in this regard, and I didn’t have the team to back me up.

To the next Secretary of Media, whether that be myself, or another player, I offer a bit of advice to help avoid the mistakes that I made, and to make eUS Government media what it once was.

Advice
1. Make a team of players your trust and can count on.
It’s good to have a mix of old and young players. Young players can write a lot, but often they can be unreliable at times. Older players are more consistent.

2. Don’t be afraid to post something that might be considered controversial

3. Do talk with other members of the Cabinet and ask them for info
I remember one of the best issues of WHPR that I did included a segment written by Garmr (then SecDef) and everyone really enjoyed that

4. Don’t let your pride get in the way. Other people can write well too.

5. And always put your personal touch on the month, and enjoy it.

6. P.S. Don’t be afraid to shoot Custer a PM every once in a while, he knows what he’s talking about.
George at his finest

To the eUS citizens, thank you for trusting me to run the Media Department over the last two months, and thank you to Trekker for trusting me in such a position. I look forward to whatever the future brings. Onward!
