Election Day
Tom Cauchon, Secretary of Media
To all eAmericans,
Today is Election Day! Make sure you get out and cast your vote! Today, you have a interesting and diverse selection of candidates to choose from.
Here is today’s ballot:
Incumbent Trekker Tlumac has received the support of the Federalist Party and the Socialist Freedom Party, as well as some assorted smaller parties.
Challenger SColbert has received the support of his party USWP, as well as AMP.
Challenger HeapSeppo has secured the support of WTP.
Custer and RGR round out our ballot for this month. Both are mainstays on the ballot throughout recent history.
Make sure you GOTV and vote for your favorite candidate. At the time of publication 418 votes had been cast. Last month, we had 795 votes cast in the CP election. It would speak volumes of our ability to work together as a community if the number of votes cast is higher this month.
The Way it Was….

About a month ago in the comments on a CP campaign article a reference was made to the Unity process. This set the wheels in my head turning. The last Unity elected President was Paul Proteus on July 5th 2013. A lot of players have come and gone during that time. I wondered to myself how much of our current player base was around for Unity. This game can seem very static at times. However a look back can show a lot of changes. Parties have risen and fallen, Alliances form and splinter, dynamic players burst on the scene and just as suddenly they're gone.
In upcoming editions of the WHPR we will run segments touching on impactful groups, events, Parties, Alliances, and individuals that are either no longer with us or have faded into obscurity. As it was a comment on Unity that sparked this concept that is where we will start. As a great deal of my experience has been in ATO I was thinking the first few segments would be in that area, but we're open to suggestions or requests.
Pfeiffer, Cerb, Inwegen, Fingerguns, John Killah, Vanek, Artela, Tenshibo, and the aforementioned Paul Proteus from October 2012 to July 2013 were elected by the Unity process. I returned to the game in April of 2013 so I witnessed the wind down and end of Unity, but I was not around for the start of it. So I messaged a few oldfags who were prominent players during that time to get their perspectives on the formation of the Unity process. Israel Stevens was the last President elected before the Unity process started. He directed me to his Presidential Library. He shared some of his thoughts on the formation of Unity and suggested I read the briefs covering the last week of his Presidency. It made for an interesting read.
The first Unity election was not the carefully thought out and codified process agreed upon by the 4 loyal Top 5 Parties and participating 6thers that I knew. It was an agreement between Pfeiffer and John Largo that the winner of a majority of the nominations for CP in USWP, the Feds, AMP, and WTP would be on the ballot alone come election day. When it looked like they'd split the nomination 2-2 after some argument John Largo conceded and dropped. During the following month the minutia of the plan for future Unity elections was negotiated and agreed upon by the Parties. It was decided the 6thers would serve as a potential tiebreaker if the top 4 split as could have happened in October 2012. If you're interested in some of the nitty-gritty details that spilled over into the Executive briefs it's worth a read. So we know some of the who, what and how of Unity, but we still have not covered the why.
This also resulted in the situation progressing to the point that if more than one candidate ran against a candidate put up by the PTO the split vote as highlighted by the above graphic would result in handing the Country Presidency to Ajay or one of his stooges. An outcome that was so unacceptable it forced many people who loathe one another to work together for the good of the nation.
No one loved Unity and it was a pet target for many diatribes. I myself as a new player wrote anti Unity articles and railed against what I saw as an unfair process that made elections boring. As stated above the alternative was anathema. Much has been said about Ajay Bruno. My thoughts on him is this: he's the kind of person that after playing a game of Monopoly or Risk for hours (all the while gloating obnoxiously while things are going his way) would flip the board over in a rage the moment he realizes the game is no longer going in his favor.
Irish Training War
The governments of the eUS and eIreland have reached an agreement to begin a training war between the two countries. This war will serve as a source of TP, RW and FF medals for citizens of both countries. Be sure to check the DoD Daily Orders, or ask your CO or XO which side you should be fighting for. CO’s check with the DoD to set appropriate Daily Orders for your units.

I still have not received my replies to interview of the third person in the Cabinet I was going to interview :/
Time to ramble on if I am still going to continue this segment in the future.
We still love you Jude!
Unity process SUCKED.
maybe but not quite almost as badly as Ajay.
Nothing sucks as much as Ajay, but Unity tried hard to live up/down to his standard.
Heyyyyy I'm in this. If I remember correctly, I was also Fed PP when unity started, which was interesting.
Unity was necessary though fairly terrible, and certainly outlasted its welcome by several months. Anyway, interesting to read about it now, good job whpr~
