[PotUS] The Power of Teamwork

Day 2,804, 20:12 Published in USA USA by Tyler Bubblar

Time always seems to go by so quickly in eRepublik. A month ago I announced my intentions to run for President of the eUnited States of America. I did my best over the next 10 days to lay out my vision and goals for our nation. The articles I wrote were all fairly lengthy and touched on quite a few topics, but really they boiled down to a few simple targets. Increased transparency both with Congress and the citizens of eAmerica, taking a more active role in the events of the outside world, putting fresh faces in critical roles, and attempting to narrow divides in our community by giving every group a role to play in the Executive. I wanted to put fresh faces in key positions in order to help promising players gain valuable experience for future runs at President of their own. I believe there are more than a few future Presidents working in my administration. Only time will tell, but I have high hopes.

It has been said that familiarity breeds contempt. To quote the animated movie Beauty and the Beast: “we don't like what we don't understand in fact it scares us.” It is my belief that familiarity breeds understanding and eventually tolerance and acceptance. I strongly feel that by getting players from the various Parties working together in a setting outside of the vitriol that can so easily beset us it would go a long way towards fostering cooperation and commonality. It is my contention that the last 20 days have proven that I am correct in this.

I have tried to go out of my way in each and every one of my articles as President to sing the praises of the Executive team. The NSC/DoD team labored near round the clock to monitor battles and coordinate damage during our excursions into Europe this month. We went into Spain to have a little fun, get some True Patriot damage, and help our Ally Portugal in their conflict with Spain. We then turned our attention to Chile after they Airstruck into France. The hope was to hit them via Spain in a pincer attack with Slovenia. When Chile cut north we entered the theater of action via France. Again we hoped for a big showdown with Chile, one rife with True Patriot damage and big CO spending on both sides. However, to quote Mat Cauthon:”The best plan lasts until the first arrow leaves the bow.”

Instead we played a game of cat and mouse with Chile. They cut the border so we were delayed. Sound strategy on their part. While we were perturbed at not getting that direct confrontation we also recognized that we would be gaining Lower Normandy without the cost of a large battle. Once again we thought the big battle would be in Upper Normandy, however it ultimately became the RW in Paris that was the big spender for the USA. We spent millions in COs to win that battle. We eventually attacked Chilean held Upper Normandy in coordination with Brazil and Slovenia on the other Chilean held regions. By this time however Chile had exhausted its reserves and the campaign was closed out rather quietly. Not quite how we envisioned things, but again: The best plan lasts until the first arrow leaves the bow.

While the USA did not get the epic face to face showdown with Chile that we hoped for the end result was Chile removed from Europe, and a stronger friendship with Colombia, France, Slovenia, Brazil, and Poland. All of these allies invested a great deal into the campaign to remove Chile from Europe and it was an absolute honor and a privilege working with them to accomplish that goal. The State Department really put in the work coordinating with the aforementioned allies as did the NSC. Teamwork whether it be here at home in the eUSA or on the international stage is a very good thing.

On the domestic front of things we have enjoyed one of the most active teams I have ever seen. There have been instances in which we’ve had active Secretaries in the Interior, Education, and Media Departments, however at this moment in time there are more than a dozen individuals actively working in those Departments. They are publishing articles, administering programs for a new players, and actively working together. Once again teamwork! As I said before I have never before seen this on such a large scale. We have also succeeded in successfully adding the programs for new players as a line item on the budget. Something the eUSA has not seen in several years.

State of the game being what it is new players are absolutely precious. Prior to now Interior and Education programs have survived in theory via fundraisers and donations from established players. However, more often than not over the last year or so it has been funded by the person administering the programs. Such generosity is of course appreciated, but such a set up limited the pool of players that could be chosen to administer said programs. Traditionally working in Departments like Interior, Education, and Media have been a proving grounds of sorts for these players. If they do well they would get opportunities to move up. It is good to see these posts once again be open to any and all regardless of their economic circumstances.

As I said at the beginning of this article I announced my intent to run for President a month ago. As such it would stand to reason that I would need to announce my intent to seek re-election around now. A few people have approached me on IRC to ask after my intentions for next month. I answered each of them in the affirmative. I feel we here in the eUSA have had an extremely active, productive, and just all around strong month. I could not be more pleased with the strong team I have comprising my administration. They have not just met the high expectations I had for them, but have in many instances exceeded them.

It is quite possible that this last month has been the most fun I have ever had in eRepublik, and as a result I am still very energized, excited, and ready to lead on as President. So I am now once again asking the eUSA to place their trust in me and the aforementioned team of excellence that has in my view served the eUSA extremely well for the last 3 weeks. If you are pleased with the direction and activity level of July then I am asking for your vote in August. Let’s do this again America! TB4CP in August!
