A lot of Japanese soldiers died during World War 2 fighting the Viet Cong rebels in Vietnam. The Viet Cong back then were trained and supplied by the American USO, the forerunner to today's CIA. Just no one talks about the losses the Japanese Imperial Army suffered at the hands of the Viet Cong when later the French and Americans took even more astounding losses at the hands of an experienced gorilla army.

You'd think they would have learned by the time the Mujahideen came around in the 80's...

Uh... that was the Russians, and news didn't travel to them. But they had their own strategies for fighting against gorilla insurgents. They bombed the irrigation channels that brought water down from the snow melting on the mountains to the valley floor where crops were grown. And then when starving out the villages didn't work, they rolled over them with tanks. No one ever counts on the tenacity of insurgents though. I wish resistance fighters in this game got as serious an advantage. This game treats it like it's a fair fight, which it isn't.

Well, in Serbia we like to say:
