The Unity Party: Best of Britain

Day 885, 10:44 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Spite313

TUP is committed to a just and fair electoral system. We reject the recent impeachment proposal on the grounds that the only justification is a personal one. It is not only immoral, but politically unwise. Should GLaDOS disappear tomorrow, we would have to wait a week to replace him. This has happened before. I urge all congressmen to vote no to the proposal

The Unity Party

Since I started the game (in December 200😎 my home has been The Unity Party. It is a party different to any other in the UK, not because of its size, but because of what it offers to members. It is a many-faced beast. It is characterised by its determined professionalism, clear message and socialist rhetoric during election time. However it is also famous for its familial nature, and the brotherhood of friends who are in it.

Since the start of the ‘golden age’ of TUP in October 2009, we have changed a lot as a party. We have become less a collection of political leaders and more like a family. Joining TUP is for most a life-long decision, and not one taken lightly. Those moving from other parties, we welcome, provided they are committed to our cause. When Indiekid and Jamesw moved to the party it was met with raised eyebrows from some. However since joining they have embraced the familial atmosphere of the party and now fit right in.

Our IRC channel is always busy, as is our sister channel which we share with the PCP (UK-Left). In those channels we talk about our ambitions, our plans, and our lives, both ingame and IRL. Sometimes we’ll be finishing a conversation about congress elections and someone will appear complaining about their history coursework for school, and be met with half a dozen queries about the topic and advice on how to tackle it. What I’m trying to say is that TUP isn’t just a political party, it’s a non-exclusive and constantly growing group of friends.

People sometimes wonder if TUP doesn’t have the infighting that other parties have. Well, we do. We disagree on a lot of issues, and always have- a party with nearly 800 members always will. But the difference is that we keep our arguments in the policy discussion section of the forums, and don’t let them spill over into personal arguments like other parties sometimes do. If a party member appeared in our channel and said “I have no wellness, please help!” I have no doubt that the person concerned would be gifted in seconds. Just because that’s how we roll.

Since I’m here promoting our party ethos, I might as well talk about our policy. We are a socialist party, or eSocialist to be precise. What does this mean? It means we believe in a big state, a big society and an involving government. Once upon a time the UK was governed by a very small number of people who basically did everything. The armed forces had a vast underbelly of drones and a few people who made all the decisions. There was little government investment in assets, and most money was thrown away on supporting an elite few.

TUP and PCP have tried their best to change that, supporting a number of governments to take this action. Not every government has been TUP, or even socialist. But since we started to make a difference by buying the very first military company back in April 2009 we have been working hard to try and influence government policy for the better. Since those early days we have focused on involving as many people as possible both in government and in the decisions government makes. We have tried to promote new players through congress, train them, and get them into government where they can help. Since those early days we have seen literally dozens of ministers, hundreds of congressmen, and a good number of Presidents elected with Unity Party support.

But why the big drive for these positions? Well early on TUP realised that there were two ways we could deliver our socialist dream to the UK. We could bite, kick and scratch our way to the top and bludgeon people with our power, or we could basically just join in and promote gradual change. We chose the second option, and over time many of our policies have been introduced, and the opposition to them has waned. You can read more about my thoughts on eSocialism here.

Our values of fairness, equality and collectivism have become the norm for the UK. We have reached a stage where we can be happy with the country we have. However that doesn’t mean that the party can be complacent. We know there is always work to done. There are always those who believe in rewarding the powerful with handouts; concentrating the wealth into the hands of an already privileged few. One example of this is the recent Ministerial Pay act. I have been a government Minister or Advisor for around twelve months now. According to the law currently being debated in parliament, I should be paid £75 a month for that work. If I was given back pay (not part of the Act) I would be owed nearly a thousand pounds from this alone. In my opinion this is a joke. Access to high areas and an ability to contribute to the history and success of one’s country is reward enough for anyone.

So what are The Unity Parties core beliefs? Well in my opinion they are:

- A dynamic economy based on socialist principles and focused upon the common good of all citizens, not just an elite few.
- A just society which guarantees every citizen equal voice regardless of age or beliefs, and where the weak are protected from abuse of power.
- An open, accountable democracy, where citizens are given the chance to directly question their elected officials and exercise their vote to remove them.
- A fair and just military, where every citizen from the tank to the 1 week old player is given equal opportunity, equal respect and is valued equally.
- A strong left wing coalition which works together to develop a plan for the future and fosters links between our members and those of allies in the PCP.

As you can probably tell, these beliefs are pretty general. However if you’re reading down the list and thinking “I agree with these beliefs” then you’re probably an eLeftist. Real life beliefs aside, the focus on people power and collectivism is what defines TUP from its right wing opponents. If you agree with us on these general points, you will probably support our more specific policies. There is never a bad time to join TUP, so you should take a chance and join today. Get onto our IRC channel, and make some new friends.
