Dear friends,

I am writing today to announce my candidacy officially for President of the Unity Party and outline my reasons for running.

Candidacy

As the more astute of you may have noticed, I candidated myself for Party President of The Unity Party in-game last month. Most TUP members probably know me as a congressman, or as a background figure in the government(s). To begin I'd like to outline who I am and why I want to lead this party once again. For a fuller version of my back story, please read this self-serving auto-biography I wrote on my first eBirthday.

OK, so about a year ago, fresh into the game, I made TUP my home. I was determined to make the party more like a political party in real life, with organs of governance, election strategy focused on communication with the public and transparent and open decision making. In my two months in office I doubled our parties size, made our paper from the 50th to 8th most subscribed newspaper in the UK, made us the biggest party in congress and set us on the road to nine successive Presidential election victories, including our first TUP President in nearly a year (in the form of Malta_1990).

Over the following months I was succeeded by John Forseti, who gave our party the solidity it needed and Mr Woldy who was quite possibly the most wildly popular leader we've ever had. In that period I felt content about the party- we were growing stronger. Despite some serious issues of judgement in who we backed for various elections the Unity Party Machine was growing a reputation as an unstoppable force. But this simply wasn't true. In fact our strength was skin deep. It was based on a series of popular candidates and upon our electoral techniques which gave us an edge.

The truth is we are just a political party. We're the strongest party, true, but we have a long way to go before we're unstoppable. In the last two months I have detected a creeping complacency amongst the party. What makes us incredible is our huge dedicated member-base, our high activity and our willingness to put time into tasks others wouldn't. We are becoming complacent. And for that reason I have decided, one year later, to rise once again and try and steer my party back towards the glory days of late 2009.

Policy

Some of you may be wondering what my goals are. Those who know me know that I am nothing if not ambitious for my party. My goals are simple (depending upon whether imminent destruction at the hands of EDEN goes ahead).

1.I want TUP to reach out to the population and show them that we are the natural party of the new player, that we represent their needs in parliament, the marketplace and the battlefield. Thus my first goal is 1000 members.
2.I believe that congress is the most important part of our legislative system after the Presidency, and that a strong congressional showing makes a strong party. Our weak performance this month can never be repeated. For this reason my goal in the upcoming congress elections is 18 seats, at least one in every region.
3.I believe that TUP members expect a party which can push its agenda on every level. For the first time in nearly a year the Presidential office is occupied by someone who did not receive our confidence in the primary elections. Whoever wins the next Presidential elections, they will win with TUP next to their name.
4.I believe that TUP should be more than just a political party, it should be a vehicle to create a better eUK for new players. For this reason I will look into reopening our gifting communes, food operations, and promoting social projects such as the communes.
5.Finally, our poor media presence of late has been a let down. As Party President I would reintroduce a media schedule, media team and assigned tasks for the whole month. TUP under me is a tight ship. Everyone will be given tasks. The party will promote itself.

Conclusion

In conclusion voting for me is voting for a party which will regain its former glory. In terms of my experience (in case anyone wants to compare...

Treasurer of Phoenix (x2)
Minister of Trade (x4)
Minister of Finance
Congress (x😎
Party President (x2)

Those are my official positions, but my experience on all levels of regional, domestic and international politics makes me the best qualified person for this role. Voting for me is voting for a stronger party.
