Dear friends,
The death of an alliance is an uncomfortable thing for everyone concerned. For the players who built and sustained it through tough times, it is a personal thing. For those governments who are involved, it means uncertainty about the future, a sudden change from an alliance form of international diplomacy to a score of bilateral relationships. For the individual citizens, it can mean chaos and speculation.
But sometimes it needs to be done. I’ve buried three alliances so far- PEACE, Phoenix and ONE. And I guess given time I will bury TWO as well, and spend my efforts bringing about a new alliance, stronger than before. The issue is not whether alliances will die - they will and should die when the circumstances that make them useful change or disappear. The question is when. It can be difficult to judge, but the time when CoT should have died was about four months ago, and since then we’ve all been stuck in limbo waiting for it to happen.
It needs to happen.
People talk about TWO collapsing as a solution - it isn’t. TWO has it’s issues of that there is no doubt. Spain have several times tried to leave the alliance and form a new one, it’s public knowledge that CTRL and the Imperium project were launched (to a stuttering failure it’s true, but still…) and that certain proTWO countries like Romania and Argentina have caused divisions. But even if TWO were to split, you would have two factions which, whilst they may dislike each other, certainly are no friend to CoT.

No, the solution must come from CoT. Their future lies with the other neutral powers- the likes of Croatia and Turkey. But not every country in CoT is capable of allying these nations. To get to this stage, you need to break the bonds of the past and reach out to the future. As an idealist, or a romantic, I would say the bonds that bind TWO will last an eternity. As a realist, I can see a completely different lineup in a completely different alliance a year away from today. But if you want that to happen, CoT must make the first step.
The problem is the fear. Bulgaria left EDEN, and every EDEN country has had it in for them since. Who wants to leave CoT and find that their allies are now their worst enemies. It’s not like Chile or Bulgaria haven’t got enough to begin with. Someone has to make the first move, and that someone should be the USA. They already have a NAP with TWO, so they’re pretty safe from us. They aren’t exactly in danger from CoT. I think they’ve known for some time that CoT was as dead as can be, and they’re basically carrying their HQ now. Leave, and show the way to the other nations.
People talk about boredom, but they’re not willing to make that jump. What do you have to lose? Look at the CoT newspaper guys, it’s pages and pages of “sorry we’re rubbish”. It’s not just broken, it’s so badly broken it cannot be fixed. I echo the sentiments of my brethren in Croatia, it’s time to move on, CoT

You missed the formation of CTRL and the attempted formation of Imperium? Logs were all over the media, not like you could miss em.
Oh, I did not. However, I am sure you do know CTRL was made for Spain not to be wiped in the long-term by the US & Brazil and that Imperium was just a failed try of Croatia.

But even in the book the donkey wasn't the ruling one.
CoT is suffering the consequences of their own actions.
Who will make the first step?
As long as TWO controls more than 50% of the damage in the eWorld, discussing death of existing or forming of new alliances is pointless

It looks like I need to expand a bit on my comment, I hate being part of the "problem" 🙂
First of all, I have no illusions, CoT has been on life support for months now and no country is courageous enough to pull the plug just because of the respect that we have for each other.
But I still believe that even if CoT dissolves, nothing major is going to happen in the New World. Even if all the currently neutral and (ex)CoT countries got into the same alliance (which will never happen), this alliance would still be the underdog. We play a "strategy" game where the only strategy is "have more damage". Yes, there is space for some short term maneuvers to outsmart a stronger opponent, but in the long run it's all about damage, and TWO controls most of it.
But even in a post CoT world, I think that that no major TWO country will be willing to leave the winning team just to shake things up. Perhaps it will happen (and yes it can happen only if CoT dissolves) but I still think that it is unlikely just because of how the game functions
But there is one big question. If we kill CoT, what will append with us?
There is no a magic moment, you dont destroy an alliance and then all problems will be solve.
For example, what will do Bulgaria?
Romania, Serbia, Turkey and a couple more will not want them in TWO, so Poland, Spain and other will have to chose between them and the previous named... So, a couple of big countries lost to win only one.
Or Chile. Do you think that Serbia, UK, Slovenia, Hungaryand even Poland will sacrifice Argantina and Colombia to win us? And Spain, will leave Poland?
The same with Mkd and Spoland.
CoT dosnt have a place outside CoT, if we are being hunt as a whole we will be certainly hunt one by one to be a bonus factory for TWO.
The first move will need to come from a TWO country. CoT in this moment will accept almost any big TWO country without conditions (Except Serbia, Romania or Greece). So, its only time for a big TWO country to realise that they have a lot of free damage to use if they want to leave their alliance.
No TWO country would join CoT, but they might join a new alliance. CoT is a big bag of shit. I mean even how you select leaders is totally stupid. Plus there are loads of stupid weak countries with equal rights, which is crazy. CoT is not a viable alternative to TWO. If you want to be attractive to new members, you need a new alliance
Yes, no TWO country will join CoT, but CoT can join a TWO country. Imperium was an example. USA and México was able to join them, but the initiative born in Spoland (Hail Siddy).
No strong CoT country will leave CoT without an alternative out of it.
And about election method. TWO haves a way to elect that make some curious things. The HQ in TWO is a whole country by itself, with their own interests that are not the same of their members. Thats why you can see that the members of the HQ are always the same. Minninus for example, if they cant join the HQ via Spain, he will join through Hungary, Belarus, etc.
Same as GregoryG, Strider or Kravenn.
It was not Siddy's initiative. LOL. Spoland was just invited to it, and they did not even think about joining it seriously. Spain nor Poland started Imperium.
Regarding the HQ, it is actually a bit obsolete, but as TWO is winning.. Who cares?

If they do not leave, situation will remain intact and so they will continue to lose. That would obviously lead to the deterioration of their power/strength -> this is happening right now.
Yet, there is no choise. If this is the end of erep that will be. But No one will jump into the abysm without a life jacket.
Cot is in the position that dosnt have choise, we are far over the road intersection. If CoT disolves itself, we will be under the mercy of our enemys, without any chance to fight.
Thats why TWO wants CoT out. Its more easy to kill those countries that are fighting alone (like last days of EDEN) that a coordinate alliance, taht maybe will not win, but will cause some headaches.
And about Imperium... You are not the only "tramero" of Spain. Someone can take the initiative and create something without an official charge.
The word of Siddy haves a lot of weight in many countries, dont underestimate him.

Thanks for the advice, but attacking China would just make them your allies. Maybe you should practice some better diplomacy instead of praying we'll make a mistake.

Saying it's TWO that needs to dissolve in order to have fun is like saying Bayern Munchen should sell all their players because they won everything they could last season and are still super strong this year so it's not interesting for the other clubs.
But why should they do it? Would you do it if you were their manager/president/owner/whatever?
Things just don't work that way. If you want to be strong then you have to fight for it, put lot of effort in it... not just wait for someone stronger to fall apart and hope it will hurt them enough so they finally be weaker than you .
TWO played much much smarter whole year and it's strong now while diplomacy of CoT was/is more or less the only reason CoT countries are isolated and have no real friends outside the alliance - thus no real possibility to improve and get strong.
That's why it's CoT that needs to go... by dissolving the alliance you also formally reset all relations between you and neutral/opposing countries because "it's all over now and you want to look for something new"... that kind of stuff. But it seems CoT (ex)leaders are enjoying more to preach about "friendship/brotherhood/bonds and ties between players" (EDEN propaganda style) and to complain how it's super boring at the same time
Oh, and I just remembered now...
When Bulgaria left EDEN they were offered place in ONE without any condition (or without any that I know of).
They refused because joining an alliance that they fought only week-two ago was... well, stupid (some could say it was because they wanted to be founding member but, to be honest, almost no strong country would accept to be only regular member because if you contribute huge damage then you need to have your say there) but were more than open to a possibility to make a new alliance with same members of ONE.
Does it maybe ring a bell why no TWO country would ever join CoT but could possibly join another alliance with basically all current CoT members? It should

It is just the same as the other teams say VM is unbeatable, lets dissolve, same logic applies to both sides, citing only one sided solution is being short sighted. TWO and COT will stay for longer than both sides desire.
If TWO and their allies continue to stand together then what combination of remaining nations could possibly successfully stand against us?
Nothing is forever though, the situation will resolve itself eventually. I'll just kick back and enjoy having a whole country while it lasts.

I think this is coming a bit further down the road. The eUS is aware that it's propping up CoT HQ at the moment, and we spent most of this month getting our domestic affairs in order. With the agreed upon peace, we've started cleaning up our own house, and judging from what I know about prospective November POTUS candidates, I think tidying up foreign affairs may be next on the to-do list.
Either way, interesting thoughts as always. Voted.

I've heard the name of Bulgaria on this page, and went to search it on the map, and boy I was suprised when I saw a yellow spot there with Romania name written on it. So, it seams to me that this article is about ancient history or smth.

Interesting concepts regarding inter-alliance affairs Iain.
Ironically I agree with both sides of the topic in comments above. CoT is no longer an effective alliance due to lack of equality with TWO controlling roughly 70% of resources and population yet as stated above only TWO's eventual schism is the only solution to the underlying problem.
So once again I return to the inevitable conclusion that MPP's and alliances in general should be removed from the interface entirely and such international cooperative efforts be forced underground into Meta.
Were MPPs removed eRep would inherently return to FFA warfare; after all with Plato's introduction of additional nations a while back it seems evident eEurope was intended to be a smoldering cauldron of clashing nationalistic sentiments.
Thus the inevitable question is when will the leadership within TWO act upon the realization that balance between MPP stacks while they remain in existence is best for eRepublik and by extension TWO. additional players are unlikely to join while their nation remains hopelessly wiped, let alone invest RL cash into eRep which is the only way updates the community request can be afforded by beleaguered Plato.
