The Coup is Defeated

Day 2,369, 01:18 Published in Ireland Ireland by Brian Boru

In what can only be described as an unparalleled demonstration of national unity, the President's attempt to subvert the Irish constitution and state for his own ends has been defeated. The national treasury is secure, the political support of the President kicked from under him, and what damage he has done has been minor and easily reversible.

In the midst of this averted crisis, every section of Irish political life acted with exemplary good sense. It seems clear that this situation would have devolved into a farce had it not been for the mutually supporting efforts of the various political factions as well as our country's civil servants.

Whether or not the Presidential impeachment will succeed, although it looks likely to at this point, we can go back to the business of government in short order. No disruption of our military affairs will have occurred due to the independence of the Irish Army from political control, as well as the hasty securing of the treasury by Nogin, Bhane and Appleman.

My fellow citizens, on behalf of my party and myself, I salute you.
