If you never give a person a chance in Congress, how are they meant to get the experience to be a good Congress-member?

What everyone has found with UKPP over the last few months is that the newbies you run don't talk with the rest of Congress. Sometimes not even accepting the friend request of the guy starting the PMs. They throw up rubbish proposals with no prior warning and when confronted all we're ever told is that UKPP have their own Congress thread for their members.

I would have no problem running an enthusiastic new player. I'd love to see Billy Randall in Congress next month. He's actually integrating and learning. As Rob pointed out, "I've never seen any of them comment on anything or write any articles".

Some valid points, which I respect.

That being said, my comment wasn't just in relation to UKPP, but Rob's sweeping preference for Congress mainstays over New Congressmen from any party. I think such an attitude is wrong and exclusive, which I find in stark contrast to your recent work on making your party more inclusive.

imo, Congress isn't the place to learn, Congress is the top of the tree. You prove yourself to be competent by your work within the party/MU setting and/or proving compentecy and understandig of basic game mechancs and an understanding of eUK culture in articles first.

That said I was a Congressman in my second month of playing the game and look how that turned out...

Presuming we do at least half as well as last time and I get a seat in congress, I don't intend to throw up "rubbish proposals" and would see this first term as a learning experience. Most of the time I'll just be cat-napping on the back-benches, when there's nothing interesting happening. I've seen and read enough in my time here to (hopefully) not cock up and am quite happy to integrate and learn. Neither Rob nor yourself are in UKPP so you won't have seen much of what I've said, since it's been in party communications, but why should that preclude someone from being a good congressman?

No one is saying that you'll be a crap Congressman, but in order to win over other players in the eUK and be regarded as an asset you need to step out of the party comfort zone and interact with the rest of the eUK.

I'm first time PP, and I'm really trying to activate our members, there is more activity in the party this term, more interaction, more coordination, more cooperation, more talking...I'm still not fully satisfied, but I think it's OK, I hope the people from the party agree...and I also hope that the next PP will continue in this manner

Running new members is a risk, for example once UKPP let one guy have a term and he then proceeded to let in the serb that PTO'd them.

1 alone is a bit risky, but it can work. UKPP's noob horde is a bad idea.

Running any member is a risk.

The most successful PTO'ers are those that run under the radar for extensive periods of time.

I am a firm believer in education and that new members to the game or even to congress need a little guiding, but that should be the extent of it.

I understand you used humour to belittle the other parties and big your own one up, it's a standard tactic. I simply do not agree with writing people off before they're given a chance. and that goes for across the entire eUK political spectrum.

I'm not an experienced Congress member, this was my first term, I talked with our candidates individually, we agree on things, they promised things, I mean only a fool believes everything he hears, but it should be OK, I really hate when people disappoint me, I'm not the most pleasant person then, I hope it will not come to that.

wasn't that under the PP of one of you lot that defected back to the UKRP if you want to point fingers and play the blame game. That PTO'er was the wakeup call that we needed to start getting things sorted

It was a Neil Lewis PP term if I'm not mistaken.

@ Tangbod - as Rob says it was under one of my terms as PP of UKPP that the PTOer struck. As no-one would deal with him for congress, i remained the de-facto PP and organised "UKPP" to run trusted congressmen under other colours (WRP I think). I've run n00bs - I think I gave you and Rob their first chances. About 90% have been successful, but the key is not to run too many and arrange a couple of "old-fags" to coach them.

Contrary to your belief, Tangbod, I started off politicking in the UKPP. I only left to join UKRP after we voted to kill off the UKPP & merge (back) with UKRP. And it would have died off if Alfa's credit-card hadn't jump-started the party.

I can't necessarily speak for Rob on this, but I think that he isn't so much opposed to new players joining Congress as much as players that don't understand the game yet. I think it's valid to expect that a potential Congressman has somewhat integrated with the community and demonstrated knowledge of the game. Congress shouldn't be a training ground. That's just my take on it, though.

I'm all in favour of a good mix of experience. I think one or two inexperienced players getting into Congress is an ideal size for each party. it just so happens that UKRP has a great collection of experienced and sensible players compared to other parties, and it is up to utilise this abundance of good Congressman.

We do also have lots of inexperienced players who would no doubt make good Congress members if given the chance, names like Billy Randall and maybe Prince Sean come to mind. A possible criticism of UKRP is that we don't develop players enough. This would however, be a shaky argument because I myself, a person with only two terms in Congress, perhaps implying inexperience, am placed relatively high in the list. So is Billy Randall, a player with no past Congress experience.

So looking at it, UKRP genuinely has the perfectly balanced list. 😛

Billy Randall would do a decent job based off what I've seen him do so far, I'd defo put him further up next time around.

Only reason I was even there this month was because due to our better PP election numbers I thought we may be in for a shout at a better performance. Oh boy was I wrong.
