Vought F4U Corsair!!
Pappy Boyington would shoot you if you didn't at least mention this plane.
Best plane is focke wolf 🙂
Japs in the south Pacific didn't really notice that. 😛
Supermarine Spitfire is by far the sexiest. Just love it, engineering excellence
Fairchild Super 71 it's a Canadian airplane for communications and light transport airplane. 🙂
Needs more Avro Lancaster.
I go outside almost every time I hear that beast from the Warplane Museum rumbling across the Hamilton sky.
I wouldn't call this article "Best aircraft", rather "Best fighter"
Best fighter of WW2 was by far the Spitfire. Many argue it won the Battle of Britain for them.
It hadeasily replaceable parts, meaning the boys could return home and could expect to be back up within the week, on the other hand, the Messerschmitt's were more than 3 weeks.
The ME262 never really saw action as it was an experiment, I wouldn't say it was the best plane, as it was never really flown. It was definitely the fastest by far.
Military historians have been debating since the war whether the Spitfire or Hawker Hurricane had the most influence on the Battle of Britain. Both were excellent in their own way.
Personally I'm going with the Spitfire as 30 years ago I went up in one and also creamed my jeans.
Nice. I think the Hurricane won it personally, but I think/agree that the Spitfire definitely made a big contribution.
The Hurricane shot down many more German bombers.
the super fortress
No shit, that was quite the airplane.
In the Atlantic, the Spitfire, just for the sheer amount of work that beast put in keeping Britain alive. In the Pacific, definitely the Zero, Japan just really sucked at adapting to new tactics.
