Hello eRepublik !

Are you ready for a Apocalypse / eApocalypse ?

I hope admins will prepare something special for tomorrow.
(at least new missions/offers on day 21.12.2012. )

Has remained very little to end of maya calendar 😃

* The Maya is a Mesoamerican civilization noted for the only known fully developed written language, as well as for its art, architecture, mathematical and astronomical systems.

* The Maya calendar is a system of calendars based upon a system which had been in common use throughout the region, dating back to at least the 5th century before the Common Era.

Maya had a different concept of time, and it may be different from the way how scientists it have interpreted. End of the calendar can means the end of a cycle or of an era.

Tomorrow we will find out: true or not.

What will happen ?

Most probably nothing unusual.

Nevertheless, there is always different threats, such as natural disasters
catastrophes or other unusual occurrences, when life is in danger.

The survival - is the art to stay alive in each situation, by adapting or creating favorable conditions for life.

Survival skills are techniques a person may use in a dangerous situation to save themselves or others, meant to provide basic necessities for human life.

Survival skills are often basic ideas and abilities that ancient humans have used for thousands of years.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”
Charles Darwin

How can we prepare ?

* A Survival kit composed of various items they deem necessary or useful for short durations in the wilderness

* Copy of the most important documents.

* A survival manual can be very useful in situations where a human's survival is threatened - expected or unexpected.
Typically it will cover both preparation, guidance and advice for first aid.

First aid
First aid can help a person survive and function with injuries and illnesses that would otherwise kill or incapacitate him/her.

The survivor may need to apply the contents of a first aid kit or, if possessing the required knowledge, naturally occurring medicinal plants, immobilize injured limbs, or even transport incapacitated comrades.

Two guys were talking about possible scenarios of the apocalypse.
One - concerned about tomorrow, other, totally ignorant, which just lives today.

Smug: - What you're doing is a waste of time! Will not happen anything, you just lose money and time !

Wise: - If nothing happens, yes, some of my time and money are lost, but not completely. But if it happens, it is you who will lose verything!

Mental preparedness

The mind and its processes are critical to survival. The will to live in a life and death situation often separates those that live and those that do not.

Stories of heroic feats of survival by regular people with little or no training but a strong will to live are not uncommon.

Situations can be stressful to the level that even trained experts may be mentally affected. To the extent that stress results from testing human limits, the benefits of learning to function under stress and determining those limits may outweigh the downside of stress.

There are certain strategies and mental tools that can help people cope better in a survival situation, including focusing on manageable tasks, having a Plan B available and recognizing denial.

“We are driven by five genetic needs: survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun.”
William Glasser

“Man can live about forty days without food, about three days without water, about eight minutes without air, but only for one second without hope”

You must choose what takes priority.

A man can not live more than:

3 minutes without air
3 days without water
3 weeks without food

Make a shelter, or find a natural shelter ( fallen-down tree, a debris hut, a tree pit shelter, or a snow cave, tarp, tent, or longhouse )

Making fire is recognized in the sources as to significantly increase the ability to survive physically and mentally. Lighting a fire without a lighter or matches, such as by using natural flint and steel with tinder.

Fire is presented as a tool meeting many survival needs.
The heat provided by a fire warms the body, dries wet clothes, disinfects water, and cooks food.

Not to be overlooked is the psychological boost and the sense of safety and protection it gives. In the wild, fire can provide a sensation of home, a focal point, in addition to being an essential energy source. Fire may deter wild animals from interfering with the survivor, however wild animals may be attracted to the light and heat of a fire.

Water
A human being can survive an average of three days without the intake of water. The need for water increases with exercise.

A typical person will lose 2-4 liters of water per day under ordinary conditions. In hot, dry, or cold weather you need 5 - 6 liters to avoid dehydration and to keep the body functioning properly.

A lack of water causes dehydration, which may result in lethargy, headaches, dizziness, confusion, and eventually death.

Even mild dehydration reduces endurance and impairs concentration, which is dangerous in a survival situation where clear thinking is essential.

Food : Culinary root tubers, fruit, edible mushrooms, edible nuts, edible beans, edible cereals or edible leaves, edible moss, edible cacti and algae can be searched and if needed, prepared (mostly by boiling).

With the exception of leaves, these foods are relatively high in calories, providing some energy to the body.

Universal Edibility Test
It is possible to distinguish edible foods from toxic ones by a series of progressive exposures to skin and mouth prior to ingestion, with waiting periods and checks for symptoms. But is dangerous beacause a small amount of some "potential foods" can cause physical discomfort, illness, or death.

Skills, and equipment (such as bows, snares and nets) necessary to gather animal food in the wild include animal trapping, hunting, fishing.

Hunting, not spend more energy than can prey give.

About hunting..

How should be a perfect hunter ?

strong, skilful, very fast ?

yes, but that's not the main.

* Most expensive thing on earth is information
* The greatest power of human is the thinking

Navigation

Survival situations can often be resolved by finding a way to safety, or a more suitable location to wait for rescue.

Types of navigation:

* Celestial navigation, ( using the sun and the night sky to locate the cardinal directions and to maintain course of travel )
* Using a map, compass or GPS receiver
* Dead reckoning
* Natural navigation: navigating using the condition of surrounding objects (moss on a tree, snow on a hill)

p.s.

Seneca
