Day 2,423, 07:31 Published in Norway Sweden by noenting

Lithuania has decided to visit Norway. In a series the Fennoscandian is explaining Lithuania, Lithuanians and Lithuanian habits to its readers together with Åke S. from the Norwegian Institute for Foreign Politics.

In the first episode the National Anthem of Lithuania has been discussed. In this episode the flag of Lithuania will be featured

Stolen - the Flag of Lithuania

The flag of Lithuania features three horizontal stripes. The lowest of which is held in red a reminder to the fact that Lithuania is a colony of Poland. The green stripe in the middle is a symbol for the grass and the plants in Lithuania. "Concerning the yellow stripe, however, there is an ongoing dispute about its meaning" explains Åke S. "Some say that it resembles the jealousy of Lithuania, some tend to say it is a symbol of the Chernobyl fallout falling on the plants of Lithuania basically destroying a year's Vodka production". Åke S. tends to believe the latter meaning is true.

"Let us, however, dig a bit deeper into the origins of the Lithuanian flag" continues Åke S. "Have you, ever seen the flag of the Danish Island of Ærø? Just compare that flag to the Lithuanian one. While the flag of Lithuania was adopted in 1918, the flag of Ærø has been in place for centuries. We can conclude the Lithuanian flag is stolen indeed"

The Fennoscandian found out that the Flag of Myanmar is somehow similar to the one of Lithuania. Åke S. commented this finding "I always thought Lithuania stole the flag of Ærø, but that they stole the flag of Myanmar as well, that is new to me as well."
