Order in the Chaos: The Interim Government

Day 2,601, 04:35 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by Spir Tus

Almost everyday there will be new reactions in debates about things nobody seems to really understand. There are a lot of opinions and people who are reffering to old debates. There seems to be an ethos of common knowledge and habits. Information is not needed, because everyone understands the common, usual things. This is called experience, and I do not have it. For someone new, or someone who does not follow all the debates, it is hard to understand a debate and to participate. The aim of this column is to create order in this chaos. This article is the sequel of my previous article and is all about a new phenomenon in the eNetherlands, the interim government.

After the impeachment of the government of Gen. De la Rey the eNetherlands encountered a new situation we never experienced before. There is no Country president and thus also no government anymore. In the december presidential elections there were only two candidates, Lord Jale and Gen. De la Rey. Both were impeached in the month of December, so there was no third one to become Country President and so we have a country without a government.

A state without government is very bad. Especially in a time when a government is much needed. The only authorized institution is the newly elected congress of the Netherlands. It was their job to come up with a solution for this situation and to try to create some form of stability. There were a lot of different solutions proposed. Because this is a new situation, there is a lot of vagueness which results into heavy debates. Personally I was in favor for a situation with no government, so congress would rule the country for this week till the CP elections of January. Congress has chosen to create this unstable structure, so I thought it will be good to just freeze everything and only handle the most important issues that can't wait.

But in the end congress decided to form an interim government. This government is not a real government, because it has no legitimacy direct from the people, but only from congress. According to congress, this interim government needs some sort of leader, the interim CP. I think this title is misleading, because he is only a representative of the Netherlands in the international world. There were a few candidates for this position as interim CP. Some people wanted Trannsvaal to be the interim CP because he was the CP of November, and therefore the last CP who wasn't impeached. But he did not want the job, partly because he is also the Keykeeper of the Netherlands right now. Another option was Fhaemita The Apostate. He is the Chairman of Congress and is in charge to regulate debates and was according to some congress members a good option to regulate also the incoming information and to act as a contact for foreign relations. But Fhaemita didn't want to be interim CP. Another option was the impeached vice Country President Walhallah, although he was in the end not an option in the voting. Because of the hasty impeachment and the new situation, Walhallah has still the title of Prime Minister ingame. Gen. De la Rey didn't fire him although congress impeached him. For people ingame, Walhallah will be the point of contact for all people who don't know about the situation. The last option was the impeached Minister of Foreign Affairs, Willem the Conquerer. He was also a valid option, because he was in charge of all foreign contacts and congress was convinced that the interim government will primarily focus on foreign affairs and be the representative of our nation.

In the end, Willem the Conquerer was the only candidate in the voting and was chosen as the interim CP of the interim government. The interim government contains also Arcanic Mindje as Ad-interim vCP and Ad-interim MoFa, Odan as Ad-MoHa, Trannsvaal as Ad-MoF, MafCeez as Ad-MoRC and Garmr as Ad-MoD.

To get more insight in what the interim government is doing, what they can do and what they can't, I will now ask some questions to the interim CP, Willem The Conquerer:

1. What do you think of the decision of congress to create a situation where we have no government?
It is always unwise to create a situation of having no government. If no government is in place, and congress doesn't do anything with the government's jobs, things will be left alone and you'll have something like a ship without a steering wheel in a storm.

2. What is your opinion about the solution of an interim government?
Well you need to get a steering wheel back onto your ship as soon as possible. So I think it was very wise of our congressmen to immediately begin with trying to find a solution. And I did not really care with what kind of solution congress came up with, as long as the most vital jobs of the government are not left alone during the last week(s) of the term. Well, and this time they came up with the idea of an interim government. So to get back to the question, I'm glad with the interim government as a solution. But if congress came up with another solution than that wouldn't make me less happy.

3. What is the interim government doing? Are there any restrictions?
As I have said previously, we are just running the most vital jobs of a normal government. The Ministry of Home Affairs is running the immigration, Foreign Affairs are keeping our relations intact, Defence publishes battle orders whenever that is needed, Recruitment and Coaching is keeping an eye on our newest citizens and our Finance minister is taking care of our money vaults.

There are restrictions, we are only there to keep the vital things going and to do the major things that can't wait like our foreign affairs at the moment. Other things are passed on to the next President.

4. What are the differences between the interim government and a regular government?
An interim government is elected by congress, a regular one by the people. Although you can say the interim government is also elected by the people in an indirect way, as congress itself is elected by the people. We have restrictions, as explained in question 3. And an interim government is significantly smaller than a regular government as an interim government is only there to keep the vital things going.

5. You decided to appoint almost the same people as Ad-Ministers who were in charge in the impeached government of Gen. De la Rey. Why did you do this?
Indeed, I have decided to keep most of the previous government members. I have replaced only the ones that were the talk of the town in congress during the debate(s), like the Minister of Defence (who also resigned during the term of Gen. De la Rey). The President himself of course, and also the vice-president.

6. Have you got anything left to say to the citizens of the eNetherlands?
I hope that, when the next president takes office, we can all forget this messy situation we have been into. And stop with the accusations in the congressional debates as it is only tearing apart our beautiful nation!

I would like to thank Willem for answering my questions. I hope this article will give you a better understanding of the interim government and their job. Of course, I can understand that a lot of people will still doubting the legitimacy of this interim government, but I will ask you to keep calm in the comments about this. The interim government is just doing the job congress wants them to do. Personally I think this is a good option to overcome this week without a government.
