My time in the Mobile Infantry

Day 632, 00:13 Published in USA USA by Heather Fuchs

This week's article was written by one of the truly greats in our current military scene. Many of you know him as DTM. Some time back he agreed (after I twisted his arm slightly) to write about his thoughts of the Mobile Infantry. What he created is a wonderful look at our history, and I believe our future as well. Thank you Lt. General DTM - as an MI alumni you continue to make us proud!

Hi world. I'm Lt. Gen Dreadnuts the Mighty. I'm currently the executive officer of the eUS Airborne Division, but I wasn't always this pseudo-important. Prior to this gig, I was in a little branch you may have heard of called the Mobile Infantry.

I was there the day the MI was formed. We were transforming the National Guard 3rd Division into a stand-alone mobile unit and I had no idea how many people we had, how we'd recruit, how we could effectively mobilize, etc, etc, etc. And to top it all off, I had just been promoted to Colonel and was faced with being one of the brains behind this new operation. Just like any new branch, we had our fair share of trials and tribulations. Inactive soldiers, platoon co's quitting due to unavoidable RL issues, spies...you name it, chances are the USMI faced it, all within the first month. But now as I sit in on the MI irc channel, see the new platoon CO's, the ever-growing number of troops, the enthusiasm and spirit in the Battle Cry articles and the sheer success they have enjoyed in all the military deployments they've participated in, I'm proud to have been a part of that monumental transformation.

When I look at the MI now and interact with the soldiers that comprise the very heart of it, I know that whatever strife befalls them, they will ALWAYS have dedicated leaders and hundreds of soldiers, ready at a moment's notice to deploy en masse wherever they are needed. Sure it's weird to be on the outside looking in at an organization I helped to build, but at the same time, it's encouraging to see those soldiers flourish and continue to grow stronger and more numerous.

If you're reading this and are not currently among the ranks of the US Armed Forces, I strongly urge you to join, in any regard that you can. You will find some of the best people on eRepublik there. When I first started off, I had no one to help me, no one to guide me on the path of prosperity and success. I did however, receive an invitation to join the National Guard though, and that made all the difference. I immediately had access to experienced players who were willing to help me get past being a noob and make something out of myself. Ever since that point, I've made it a point to help out wherever I can, taking the time out of my day to help individual soldiers in a pinch because I was in the same situation at some point and know what it's like.

I guess overall, if you get anything at all out of this rambling and disjointed article, it should be this: The eUS Military is a great place to meet great people who are willing to give of themselves without hesitation to make sure you have all the tools and skills to become a strong, active member of the new world. My time in the Mobile Infantry, while brief, was a great time. The guys and gals that make up this division are amazing. That's pretty much all I have to say.
